    Abstract: A printing system includes a printer and computers connected by an network. A mail server is provided for transmitting notification data from the printer to the computers in the form of an email message. Print data stored in the printer is erased once the print data has been used for reprint operations a certain amount of times. If the amount of print data stored in the printer exceeds a reference size, then print data sets are selected for erasure based on predetermined conditions. Data stored in the printer can be retrieved from the printer and amended at the computer.

    Abstract: When the print sheet number determined based on the mail header is equal to or higher than the predetermined value (“Yes” in S996), the print confirmation screen is displayed in S997 to request the user to indicate whether or not to print the print mail. If the program determines in S998 that the user has indicated his/her desire to print, then the mail is printed in S1030 and S1040. However, if the user has not indicated a desire to print, the print operation is not performed. With this configuration, not all received print mail is immediately targeted for printing. The user can defer printing of print mail having a large amount of data according to circumstances on the receiving end. The large amount of print mail data will not occupy the printer on the receiving end for a long period of time. Hence, urgent or important printing can be given a higher priority.

    Abstract: A paper feeder for a printer in which a paper separator roller 15 is rotatably provided in the end portion of a paper holder 12 so that when a paper feed roller 14 is rotated in the paper feed direction, the paper separator roller 15 is arranged to stop at a predetermined position and act similarly to a conventional friction pad, while when the paper feed roller 14 is rotated in the paper return direction, the paper separator roller 15 also rotates in synchronization with the above rotation. By way of vibrating the paper separator roller 15 in the rotational direction or another direction, paper sheets P stacked on the paper holder 12 are vibrated for the purpose of being successively moved in the portion at which the two rollers 14 and 15 are positioned in contact with each other. As a result of this structure, the paper feeder of the printer according to the present invention can be prevented from local abrasion of the paper separator roller 15 causing papers to be fed in an overlap manner, and stop of paper feed can be prevented, and papers can be assuredly fed one at a time to the printing mechanism portion 1.
