Abstract: A power distribution equipment personnel safety system includes a vicinity sensor and a power distribution equipment sensor. An outer envelope having a door or cover to an interior of the power distribution equipment is monitored by a vicinity sensor data and a processing unit determines a position of a person in the area outside of the door/cover using vicinity sensor data. When the outer envelope is disturbed where one or more doors or one or more covers are open or not correctly closed or one or more covers are removed, the processing unit determines a personnel safety state and at least one action comprising utilization of the personnel safety state.

Abstract: A three-position disconnector switch includes a platform, a power in contact, a power out contact, an earthing contact, and a piston. In a first position, the piston contacts the power out contact and the power in contact. In a second position, the piston contacts the power out contact. In a third position, the piston contacts the power out contact and the earthing contact. The piston moves along an axis to transition between the different switch positions. The power in contact is mounted to the platform, the power out contact is mounted to the platform, and the earthing contact is mounted to the platform.

Abstract: A system and method for monitoring a switchgear includes an infrared camera, a processing unit, and an output unit. The infrared camera acquires an infrared image of the switchgear, and the processing unit converts it into a binary image. Pixels in the infrared image having a temperature equal to or above a first threshold value are given the same first value. Pixels in the infrared image having a temperature below the first threshold value are given the same second value. The processing unit is configured to implement a Siamese neural network to determine if a hot spot exists in the infrared image.

Abstract: A system for monitoring a switchgear includes an infrared camera; a processing unit; and an output unit. The infrared camera acquires a first infrared image having a first number of pixels, and the processing unit determines a pixel in the first infrared image with a maximum temperature. The processing unit utilizes a second number less than the first number to determine a temperature interval for the first infrared image equal to a difference between the maximum temperature in the first infrared image and a threshold temperature in the first infrared image. The processing unit is configured to determine that a hot spot exists in the switchgear using the temperature interval for the first infrared image.

Abstract: A three-position disconnector switch includes an earthing contact, a power out contact, a power in contact, and a piston. The power out contact comprises first and second parts connected by a leg portion. In a first position, the piston contacts the first part of the power out contact. In a second position, the piston contacts the first part of the power out contact and makes electrical contact with the second part. In a third position, the piston contacts the second part and makes electrical contact with the earthing contact. The piston is configured to move along an axis of the three-position disconnector switch to transition the three-position disconnector switch between the different switch positions.
