摘要: A closed water purification and recycle system processes domestic wastewater to produce potable water for cooking, drinking and dishwashing and water suitable for general household use, such as washing clothes and personal hygiene. The system consists of septic tanks, a biological sand filter, an ultrafilter, a disinfection unit, pumps, valves, water quality and quantity sensors to monitor and control the process. The system also includes an incinerator toilet to eliminate the need for toilet flush water. Water for cooking, drinking and dishwashing is produced by a still using some of the recycled water for feed. The quality of the recycled water is monitored to assure the product water is suitable for the intended uses. Water thus produced is stored until reused. The system will be automatically shut down if the final product water quality does not meet specifications. Blowdown containing concentrated salts from the still is evaporated and incinerated in the incinerator toilet to maintain a satisfactory concentration of salts in the recycled water. The system equipment is designed and sized to allow unattended operation between inspections, scheduled periodically, at which time routine maintenance is performed and makeup water is added to the system to replace water lost to evaporation.

摘要: A nuclear fuel assembly is described for producing tritium in a light water moderated reactor. The assembly consists of two intermeshing arrays of subassemblies. The first subassemblies comprise concentric annular elements of an outer containment tube, an annular target element, an annular fuel element, and an inner neutron spectrums shifting rod. The second subassemblies comprise an outer containment tube and an inner rod of either fuel, target, or neutron spectrum shifting neutral.

摘要: An electromechanical pipe snubbing system and an electromechanical pipe snubber. In the system, each pipe snubber, in a set of pipe snubbers, has an electromechanical mechanism to lock and unlock the snubber. A sensor, such as a seismometer, measures a quantity related to making a snubber locking or unlocking decision. A control device makes an electrical connection between a power supply and each snubber's electromechanical mechanism to simultaneously lock each snubber when the sensor measurement indicates a snubber locking condition. The control device breaks the connection to simultaneously unlock each snubber when the sensor measurement indicates a snubber unlocking condition. In the snubber, one end of the shaft slides within a bore in one end of a housing. The other end of the shaft is rotatably attached to a pipe; the other end of the housing is rotatively attached to a wall. The snubber's electromechanical mechanism locks the slidable end of the shaft to the housing and unlocks that end from the housing. The electromechanical mechanism permits remote testing and lockup status indication for each snubber.

摘要: An on-line outlet temperature monitoring device to back up readings provided by stationary temperature detectors on individual process tubes in a nuclear reactor. The monitoring device includes a highly accurate temperature sensor that can be selectively coupled to the outlet end of any chosen process tube to verify temperature readings pertaining to that process tube. Specifically, the sensor is suspended in a movable enclosure that can be shifted into position about a supporting wall for the protruding ends of the process tubes. The movable sensor is used to back up readings provided by the stationary temperature detectors and to recalibrate the stationary temperature detectors so as to permit their use at lower tolerance limits.

摘要: A submergible barge and process for submerging and storing radioactive waste material along a seabed. A submergible barge receives individual packages of radwaste within segregated cells. The cells are formed integrally within the barge, preferably surrounded by reinforced concrete. The cells are individually sealed by a concrete decking and by concrete hatch covers. Seawater may be vented into the cells for cooling, through an integral vent arrangement. The vent ducts may be attached to pumps when the barge is bouyant. The ducts are also arranged to promote passive ventilation of the cells when the barge is submerged. Packages of the radwaste are loaded into individual cells within the barge. The cells are then sealed and the barge is towed to the designated disposal-storage site. There, the individual cells are flooded and the barge will begin descent controlled by a powered submarine control device to the seabed storage site. The submerged barge will rest on the seabed permanently or until recovered by a submarine control device.
