摘要： An apparatus and method are disclosed for determining the wet strength of paper. It is necessary to know the wet strength of paper in order to determine the runnability of pulp in the papermaking machine. Present devices for measuring the wet strength of paper are slow and complex. The present apparatus includes a means for releasing a ball from a predetermined height to drop freely in a vertical path, clamp means to support a sheet of wet paper and to position the sheet at a pre-determined location within the vertical path of the ball and perpendicular thereto, and means for determining speed of the ball dropping in the vertical path below the clamp means. The method includes steps of releasing a ball from a predetermined height to drop freely in a vertical path, measuring the speed of the ball at a first pre-determined location in the vertical path, positioning a sheet of wet paper in a horizontal plane at a second pre-determined location above the first location in the vertical path, releasing another ball having the same size and mass as the first ball to drop freely in the vertical path and rupture the sheet of wet paper, measuring the speed of the second ball after it has ruptured the sheet of wet paper at the first location in the vertical path and determining the rupture energy of the sheet of wet paper and thus the strength of the wet paper.

摘要： Disclosed is a combination coupling device having a cylindrical coupling element and a removable bearing hub spider that fits within the coupling element. The coupling element has a coupling ledge on which the bearing hub spider can be positioned and engaged via engagement means. The inner wall of the coupling element may be threaded to engage the ends of complementary threads on pipes inserted therein. The bearing hub spider is interchangeable so as to allow replacement of one bearing hub spider that is specific to a certain application with a second bearing hub spider specific to a different application, without the need to replace the coupling element which can remain in place on the pipe.

摘要： An improvement in refiner discs for mechanical pulping of wood and other material is disclosed which increases wood pulp production. The improvement has at least one refiner plate set mounted on a disc to form a pair of opposing refiner plate sets. The one refiner plate set has a series of hard spots placed at different radial distances on the surface. In one process of manufacturing the plate set, a series of locations are hardened, preferably by spot welding or spot hardening on at least one raised portion of the plate set.

摘要： A system and method for monitoring the permeability of a well structure defining a bore hole. The system comprises a wave generator, a sensor adapted to receive current wave data, and a processor programmed to compare the current wave data to prior wave data in order to determine the permeability of the well structure. The processor can calculate a correlation value and/or a decay value that reflects changes between the current wave data and the prior wave data, and these values can be displayed for the user. The method comprises creating a pressure wave in the bore hole, sensing current wave data, and comparing the current wave data to prior wave data in order to determine the permeability of the well structure. The step of comparing can include calculating a correlation value and/or a decay value that corresponds with the change in the data, and the values can be displayed.
