    Abstract: A method of manufacturing a portion of a boot shell for an ice skate that includes preparing a monolithic, two-dimensional pattern of the boot shell; positioning the monolithic, two-dimensional pattern into a three-dimensional preform of the boot shell; installing the three-dimensional preform in a mold; and consolidating the three-dimensional preform in the mold to produce the portion of the boot shell. An article of footwear for use in ice skating comprising a boot shell structured and arranged to accommodate a wearer's foot and having a medial forefoot portion, a lateral forefoot portion, a sole portion, a lateral ankle portion, a medial ankle portion, and a heel portion, the boot shell further comprising (i) a first thermoformable material having a softening point between 40° C. and 100° C., and (ii) a plurality of fibers, at least one of adjacent to or integrated within the first thermoformable material.

    Abstract: Protective gear for protecting an arm or other body part of a wearer, such as a lacrosse, hockey, baseball, or other sports player, or an occupational worker, is provided. The gear can be in the form of an arm guard including a forearm guard, a biceps guard and a sleeve. The sleeve can be joined with the forearm guard and an upper end of the biceps guard, with a lower end of the biceps guard being free from attachment to the sleeve to facilitate radioulnar rotation of the forearm guard and thus the forearm of the wearer. The arm guard can include a low profile elbow cap that is integral with the forearm guard, and generally free floating within and joined with the forearm guard, rather than being a separate component from the forearm guard.

    Abstract: Methods for the individualized design and manufacture of lacrosse heads using point of sale additive fabrication. In one aspect, a subscription-based method includes digitizing a plurality of lacrosse heads having different three-dimensional attributes, storing the resulting digital object data into a digital lacrosse head library, transmitting the digital lacrosse head library to a subscriber, recording the number of lacrosse heads formed by the subscriber using additive fabrication, and generating an invoice based on the number of formed lacrosse heads. In another aspect, a method includes displaying images of lacrosse heads on a user interface, enabling the user-specified selection of discrete components of a lacrosse head, enabling the user specification combination of the discrete components, superimposing the user-specified combination to form a digital object representation of a lacrosse head, forming a tangible three-dimensional lacrosse head by additive fabrication, and transferring the tangible three-dimensional lacrosse head to the consumer.

    Abstract: A lacrosse head that enhances attachment and securement of the lacrosse head to a lacrosse handle can include an insert extending within a socket defined by a base of the head. The insert can include two or more expandable, resilient fingers that optionally are secured in a cantilevered manner to a bottom of the socket. The base and insert can be configured so that a fastener can be installed through at least one of the fingers to subsequently engage additional fingers, thereby moving the respective fingers radially outwardly to engage interior surfaces of the lacrosse handle and thereby secure the handle to the head.
