Abstract:
The invention refers to a device comprising a generator unit for generating stimulation signals and a stimulation unit connected to the generator unit, wherein the stimulation unit is designed to stimulate nerve cells in the nucleus accumbens and/or in the amygdaloid nucleus and/or in the fasciculus medialis telencephali and/or in pathways made of dopaminergic areas of the mesencephalon leading to the nucleus accumbens or the amygdaloid nucleus and/or in fiber bundles linking the nucleus accumbens and the amygdaloid nucleus using the stimulation signals.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a patient positioning and transport system comprising a transportable stretcher (1) and a cart (2) for transporting the stretcher (1) with the patient. The stretcher (1) can be removed from the cart (2) to be placed on a diagnosis or treatment station (4). A patient positioning and transport system of the aforementioned type should be designed as to avoid, to the greatest possible extent, repositionings of the patient between separate diagnosis or treatment stations (4). Towards this end, at least one adapter plate (3) that can be assigned to the stretcher (1) is provided, whereby the stretcher (1), the adapter plate (3) and the cart (2) can be joined to another and are configured in such a manner that the stretcher (1) with the patient can be transferred from the cart (2) to various, differently designed diagnosis or treatment stations (4) and back.
Abstract:
A body part such as a patient's head is positioned for treatment purposes by holding a treatment point defined relative to marks attached to the body part is held in a desired position. To this end, at least two picture signal generating sensors are aligned to observe the marks. A picture processing device for processing the pictures of the marks is provided to define marker points, which are determined by the marks and define the actual position of the body part. Furthermore, a signal processing and control device is provided for computing the actual position from the observed positions of the marker points, for comparing the actual position with a desired position and for generating actuating signals, which depend on the error between actual position and desired position. The actuating signals are applied to actuators, which engage the body part. Thereby the treatment point can be returned to the desired position, if it has deviated therefrom.

Abstract:
Apparatus for measuring the radiation power of lasers, particularly infrared lasers, with a thermal detector, which supplies a power-caused measurement signal. In order to be able to measure rapid laser radiation power changes, the apparatus is so constructed that there is a device which locally integrates the laser radiation and to which, apart from the thermal detector, is connected at least one further detector, which is able to detect radiation power changes with a larger band width than the band width detectable by the thermal detector and that there is a circuit combining the measurement signals of the detectors.
Abstract:
An intervivo probe for a nuclear magnetic resonance tomographic apparatus has a measuring coil carried at one end of a thin plastic carrier, the coil having a cross-sectional area in the range of approximately a few square millimeters and a length of approximately 10 to 20 mm. The measuring probe is inserted in body organs, such as the brain, liver and kidney by means of cannulae or channels which have been surgically or otherwise inserted in the organ for other purposes.
Abstract:
An apparatus (100) is described that comprises a generator unit (1) of generating electrical stimulation signals and a spinal cord stimulation unit (2) encompassing a plurality of stimulation contact surfaces (11-14) to which the generator unit (1) feeds the stimulation signals. At least two of the stimulation contact surfaces (11-14) are arranged in a staggered manner transverse to the direction in which the spinal cord extends.

Abstract:
A method for the photodisruption of tissue using a laser beam for stereotactic laser neurosurgery includes the initial step of positioning the distal end of a probe into the tissue to be photodisrupted. A laser beam having laser pulses of picosecond or femtosecond duration is then directed along a beam path through the probe. Using a focusing lens, which is slidably positioned on the beam path in the probe, and a light reflector, which is slidably positioned on the beam path at the distal end of the probe, the laser beam is focused to a focal point that is located on a line substantially perpendicular to the beam path through the probe. By concerted movement of the lens and mirror, predetermined cylindrical layers of tissue can be photodisrupted. Specifically, a rotation of the mirror causes photodisruption of tissue along a circular arc and a simultaneous movement of the lens and mirror allows for photodisruption of additional arcs on a cylindrical surface. Further, by moving the lens relative to the mirror, cylindrical tissue surfaces having different radii can be photodisrupted. Additionally, the area of tissue photodisruption can be irrigated and aspirated during practice of the method.
