    Abstract: A support column for a horizontally extending space frame system of the type wherein an upper chord frame and a lower chord frame structure are formed of a plurality of strut members connected to each other and held together by a plurality of connecting fixtures. The support column is adapted for connection to the connecting fixtures by one or more arm members and/or seat fixtures carried at the top of the support column. The arm members and/or seat fixtures also support a second support column extending upwardly through the space frame system to support another vertically higher horizontally extending space frame system.

    Abstract: A structural sign support assembly composed of a plurality of telescopically assembled, perforated tubular members comprising a ground anchor, a reinforcing sleeve and a post member in which the longitudinally perforated tubular ground anchor, whose upper surface is substantially flush with the ground surface or the concrete or asphalt topping alongside a roadway, has its upper portion encompassed by a larger close-fitting longitudinally perforated tubular reinforcing sleeve for rigidity and added strength at a surface level breakaway point. A longitudinally perforated tubular sign support post is telescopically retained within the ground anchor and secured by a bolt member or members extending through aligned perforations of the post, the ground anchor and the reinforcing sleeve. The perforations of the post at or immediately above the top surface of the ground anchor and its supporting sleeve provide a relatively weak breakaway section so that the post will break off on impact from a vehicle or the like above the ground surface without damaging the reinforcing sleeve and the tubular ground anchor with the lower end of the standard or post remaining therein. The post can thereafter be easily removed from the ground anchor which remains in the concrete or soil of the ground for replacement with a new post.

    Abstract: A method of producing structural members such as angles, channels and tubes from hardened flat strip stock in which the thickness of the initial stock is first reduced, preferably through a cold rolling mill, while simultaneously raising longitudinal ridges from one face and impressing aligned longitudinal depressions into the opposite face, each aligned ridge and depression corresponding in position to a corner of the to-be-formed member. Each ridge consists of a convex radius or a substantially sharp peak intermediate concave radii merging into the remaining flat portions of the stock. Each depression consists of a small concave radius or a substantially sharp groove intermediate convex radii merging into the opposite flat portions of the stock. The stock thus initially reduced and formed is then bent, preferably in a cold roll forming mill, to the desired shape of the member without the risk of cracking, and facilitating the formation of small radius bends at desired corners. If the initially formed ridges are sharp, the exterior surface of the member will have substantially sharp corners, which reduces the eccentric loading otherwise encountered with cold rolled members while retaining the strength increased properties of the member effected by the cold roll reduction.

    Abstract: A strut member for attachment to a surface or between surfaces and which has at least one longitudinally depressed mounting surface, with perforations within the recess at a plurality of spaced locations for attachment of fasteners, brackets or other support members. The strut member may be constructed of a variety of cross sections or shapes from a simple L-section to U-channels and polygonal shapes. The internal ridges on either side of the depression form flanges for the attachment of connecting elements and the like. In one form, the perforations are provided with knockouts which, when in place, substantially retain the original strength of the strut member.
