摘要: Longitudinally spaced and laterally spaced sensors are used to sense longitudinally spaced and laterally spaced areas on each inserted bill. The lateral spacing of those sensors enables one of those sensors to engage and sense part of the upper half, and enables the other of those sensors to engage and sense part of the lower half, of each inserted bill - thereby making it possible to prevent the acceptance of a sheet of paper bearing just the upper half of an authentic bill and also making it possible to prevent the acceptance of a sheet of paper bearing just the lower upper half of an authentic bill. The longitudinal spacing of those sensors enables one of those sensors to engage and sense part of the leading half, and enables the other of those sensors to engage and sense part of the trailing half, of each inserted bill - thereby making it possible to prevent the acceptance of a sheet of paper bearing just the leading half of an authentic bill and also making it possible to prevent the acceptance of a sheet of paper bearing just the trailing half of an authentic bill. In addition, the longitudinal spacing of those sensors enables those sensors to provide four signals which correspond to the longitudinally spaced and laterally spaced areas on an authentic bill and which are spaced apart in time; and thus makes it possible to use two sensors to provide four time-spaced signals. The two sensors of the paper currency validator are connected in series; and the series connecting of those sensors and the time-spacing of the signals corresponding to the longitudinally spaced and laterally spaced areas on an authentic bill make it possible for one amplifier to receive and amplify the signals from both of those sensors. The paper currency validator uses phase locked loops as frequency detectors, and thereby provides very compact, relatively inexpensive, and readily adjusted frequency detectors. One of these locked loops responds to signals which are developed as an authentic U.S. 1 dollar bill is engaged and sensed by the sensors, and the other of those phase locked loops responds to signals which are developed as an authentic U.S. 5 dollar bill is engaged and sensed by the sensors; and hence the paper currency validator can test the validity of authentic U.S. 1 dollar and 5 dollar bills. Additionally, the paper currency validator can respond to signals from a dispensing machine with which it is associated to selectively reject such 1 dollar bills, such 5 dollar bills, or all such 1 dollar and 5 dollar bills. The sensors of the paper currency validator engage and sense the border on each inserted authentic bill before they engage and sense the longitudinally spaced and laterally spaced areas on the bill - thereby making it possible to reject any bill which does not have a border. The paper currency validator requires a number of specifically different events to occur within a corresponding number of specifically different time periods; and it utilizes timing circuits which include gates and a binary counter to determine the lengths of those time periods. In using timing circuits which include a binary counter and gates instead of using RC networks, the paper currency validator attains more precise control over the lengths oF the time periods, and it does so at less cost and in a smaller space.

摘要: An escrow-stacker, for use in a vending machine, has a space which can receive authentic bills from a validator for paper currency; and a pusher moves those bills into position between the bill-receiving surfaces of an escrow means. If the patron who inserted those bills changes his mind, solenoids are operated to move some of the bill-receiving surfaces of the escrow means to bill-releasing position and to open a door which is located below the escrow means - thereby permitting those bills to pass to a currency retrieval receptacle at the exterior of the vending machine. On the other hand, if the patron selects and receives a desired product or service, the pusher will move the bills from their position within the escrow means to a position within a stacking means; and, thereafter, those bills will be held by that stacker means until they are removed by the operator who replenishes the supply of product in the vending machine.

摘要: A fresh-brew coffee vendor having a reservoir adapted to hold a plural-cup batch of brewed coffee and a single-cup brewer for supplying the reservoir, with a dispensing valve opened on a time cycle basis for dispensing a cup of coffee from the reservoir on a vend cycle, and a control for effecting operation of the brewer to brew as many cups of coffee as may be needed to re-establish the plural-cup batch in the reservoir whenever coffee is dispensed from the reservoir, and for maintaining the dispensing valve closed whenever the supply of coffee in the reservoir falls below a predetermined low level (e.g., one and one-half cups). Provision is also made for dumping coffee from the reservoir if a predetermined time interval (e.g., two hours) elapses without a vend, and operation of the brewer is then deferred until the next vend.

摘要: A merchandising cabinet, e.g., an ice cream dipping cabinet, having a transparent window means and a curved transparent lid closing the upper front and top of the cabinet and permitting the contents of the cabinet to be viewed by both the customer and the server with the lid opened or closed. The window means extends the length of the cabinet and comprises a front window extending upwardly at the upper front of the cabinet and a top window extending back from the top of the front window to a position above and forward of the top of the back cabinet wall providing an opening for access to the containers by the server. The curved transparent lid is slidably mounted on curved track means at its ends for sliding movement between a closed position in which the lid blocks the opening and an open position in which a customer may view the containers through the window means and the lid.

摘要: A vendor comprising a bank of dispensing modules and a single control module for the dispensing modules, the control module containing the credit system and selector system for all the dispensing modules. Each of the latter comprises a cabinet having a plurality of article dispensers therein one above another adapted to feed articles formed to drop down to a delivery station at the lower front of the cabinet, which has a window in its front door for viewing the articles. Unauthorized access to the dispensers is prevented by a gate which normally blocks off the dispensers from the delivery station, but which opens on initiation of a vend to allow an article to drop down to the delivery station, and which closes in response to dropping of an article. Provision is made for operation of a dispenser for an interval generally sufficient for dispensing of an article, and for terminating operation either in response to a drop, or lapse of time if there is no drop.
