Abstract: A vehicle frontal illumination system includes a bracket attached to a front of a vehicle, where the bracket includes a light receiving surface that faces the front of the vehicle. The system also includes one or more lights attached to the light receiving surface of the bracket such that the one or more lights face the front of the vehicle. The system further includes a control system in communication with the light, where the control system is configured to turn the one or more lights on to illuminate the front of the vehicle to reduce the likelihood of an animal vehicle collision.

Abstract: Methods for producing structural materials from lumber are provided. The methods use an oxygen pre-treatment or a carbonate pre-treatment followed by densification via thermal compression to produce structural materials with strong mechanical properties. The pre-treatments are able to partially delignify the lumber without substantially adversely affecting the mechanical properties of the subsequently densified wood.

Abstract: The immune response of an animal to a target immunogen may be enhanced by use of an adjuvant which includes low concentrations of killed cells of Mycobacterium avium subspecies avium in combination with mineral oil. Abstract: A method of making a carbon foam comprises subjecting a precursor composition comprising an amount of at least partially decomposed lignin to a first pressure for a first time, optionally, while heating the precursor composition to a first temperature; heating the compressed precursor composition to a second temperature for a second period of time while subjecting the compressed precursor composition to a second pressure to further decompose the at least partially decomposed lignin and to generate pores within the compressed precursor composition, thereby providing a porous, decomposed precursor composition; and heating the porous, decomposed precursor composition to a third temperature for a third time to carbonize, and optionally, to graphitize, the porous, decomposed precursor composition to provide the carbon foam. Also provided are the carbon foams and composites made from the carbon foams.
