Abstract:
A method and apparatus for link adaptation is provided. A node stores a set of transmit parameters and corresponding selection probabilities for each of the transmit parameters. The node stochastically selects a particular transmit parameter based on the selection probabilities, and then transmits a packet according to the particular selected transmit parameter. From received transmission feedback information, the node derives performance statistics, and uses the performance statistics to specify an estimated performance function for the particular transmit parameter. The node updates a selection probability computation function (SPCF), and uses the SPCF to generate updated selection probabilities corresponding to each transmit parameter in the set of available transmit parameters.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a system and method for multihop packet forwarding within a multihop wireless communication network. The method uses a data frame format including at least the four address fields to forward packets in a multihop wireless network. The method includes generating a route request packet at a routable device in response to receiving a packet destined for an unknown destination. The route request packet includes an originating device field including an address of an originating device, wherein the originating device generated the packet originally; and a source field, wherein the source field includes an address of the first routable device which generated the route request packet.
Abstract:
A node in a wireless communication system announces a channel switch operation to facilitate a smooth transition to other channel. The node detects a requirement to discontinue communications at a first channel and sends a message to a plurality of neighboring nodes in response to detecting the requirement. Generally, the message comprises at least a reason for discontinuation of communications at the first channel and a duration for the channel switch operation after which the node is available for communications at the first channel or an alternate channel. Each of the plurality of neighboring nodes can determine based on the message and the neighborhood conditions a requirement to scan alternate channels to initiate communications with other nodes.
Abstract:
A method and device for providing an alternative backhaul portal at a mesh access point in a mesh network as provided enables improved backhaul services. The method includes processing a registration of the mesh access point as an alternative backhaul portal in the mesh network. It is then determined that additional backhaul capacity is required in the mesh network. Next, the mesh access point is activated as an alternative backhaul portal in the mesh network in response to determining that additional backhaul capacity is required. Mesh network data are then routed through the alternative backhaul portal at the mesh access point until it is determined that additional backhaul capacity is no longer required. The mesh access point is then deactivated as an alternative backhaul portal in the mesh network.
Abstract:
A method is provided for communicating data items across one or more disjoined networks. The method comprises receiving a message including a data item information list having data item information associated with each of one or more data items stored in a node of the disjoined networks; ranking each of the data items based on each of the associated data item information; comparing each of the associated data item information of the ranked data items with a local data index information list to select one or more data items requiring updating; and sending a request for updating the selected data items.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method and apparatus to estimate link performance in a packetized communication network (100). The method includes identifying one or more system parameters (240) of the packetized communication network (100); obtaining one or more transaction feedback (235) of one or more packetized communications within a communication link (110, 120) of the packetized communication network (100); and estimating performance of the communication link using the identified system parameters (240) and obtained transaction feedback (235).
Abstract:
A Wireless Router (WR) aggregates information regarding the emergency calls based on their context and routes the aggregated emergency information to the correct portal which directs the aggregated emergency to appropriate Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). The information aggregation is automatically triggered when the number of calls exceeds the multihop capacity to the egress point. The PSAP responds to the emergency situation by sending a response message via the Portal. The WR multicast/broadcasts the response message to the mobile devices which initiated the emergency calls. The response message generally includes emergency instructions based on incident type and location. Further, a call-back list is created for users whose emergency calls were not completed. By using the call-back list PSAP personnel can initiate calls to end users to provide assistance in emergency situations.
Abstract:
Unified groupcast data frame formats are provided for improving the efficiency of groupcast communications in multihop wireless mesh networks, and significantly reducing bandwidth consumption. The unified groupcast data frame formats modify existing BSS data frame formats by inserting a mesh end-to-end sequence number into a field that is normally reserved for a sequence control field. In some implementations, a time-to-live (TTL) value can also be inserted into a QoS control field.
Abstract:
A method for distributed call admission control in a wireless network includes the steps of: initiating a communication call within the wireless network; computing a resource metric at each of a plurality of nodes along a communication route of the wireless network, wherein each of the resource metrics is representative of a network dynamic; distributing the resource metrics along a communication route to at least one call admission control point within the wireless network; and performing a call admission process for the communication call at the at least one call admission control point using the resource metrics.
Abstract:
A message format for use in one or more multihop flow reservation messages in a multihop wireless network includes a reservation originator identification; a reservation terminator identification; a sequence control; and optionally a flow originator identification. A multihop flow reservation comprises forwarding a traffic stream request including the message format and forwarding a traffic stream reply including the message format along a multihop route. After the traffic stream reservation is completed, a data is forwarded along the multihop route.
