    摘要: An image reading apparatus includes light sources, an image sensor, a data generating unit, and a carrier unit. The light sources are sequentially turned on for an identical period once in a single line period. The image sensor reads information from a print medium irradiated by the light sources. The data generating unit generates pixel data corresponding to the information. The carrier unit carries the print medium such that the image print medium is scanned by the image sensor in a sub-scanning direction. The single line period is equal to or more than twice a period from when first one of the light sources is turned on until last one of the light sources is turned off.

The pairs of rollers are arranged along the rotation axis direction of the driving roller and constitute a first roller group and a second roller group for conveying a first medium and a second medium thicker than the first medium, respectively. The center of the first roller group is identical in the rotation axis direction to that of a first conveying area where the first medium is conveyed. The center of the second roller group is identical in the rotation axis direction to that of a second conveying area where the second medium is conveyed. At least one pair of rollers in the second roller group is arranged outside the first roller group within the first conveying area.

    摘要: The present invention provides a thermal head having a long lifetime and a high printing quality by making the size of steps of a protective layer formed on a heating portion of a heating resistor small and a method for manufacturing the thermal heads. In the thermal head, respective lower-layer electrodes having a film thickness of approximately 2 &mgr;m are formed on outskirts portion of a bulging portion of a heat insulation layer excluding a heating portion of a heating resistor and portions in the vicinity of the heating portion. Then, respective upper-layer electrodes having a film thickness which falls in a range of 0.1 to 0.3 &mgr;m are continuously formed from portions at positions in the vicinity of the heating portion excluding the heating portion to upper surfaces of the lower-layer electrodes. Due to such a constitution, the size of the steps formed in the protective layer can be made extremely small and hence, it becomes possible to prevent dregs and dusts which are generated during printing from being gathered at the steps.
