摘要: A mobile communications unit for communicating data to and/or from base stations, the unit being arranged to communicate data with one or more base stations via a wireless access interface provided by the one or more base stations; arranged to receive transmissions from the one or more base stations via at least one carrier, wherein carriers are logically separate sets of physical resources within a frequency range, the resources of a carrier providing a communication channel; and arranged, upon reception of allocation information comprising an indication of the location of common information within a first carrier, to access the common information in the first carrier, wherein the allocation information is provided in a second carrier and the common information is for at least one mobile unit using the first carrier and for at least one mobile unit using a second carrier.

The wireless communication system uses plural frequency sub-carriers spanning a system frequency band. Physical-layer control information for the terminal device is transmitted from the base station using sub-carriers selected from across the system frequency band, for example to provide frequency diversity. However, higher-layer data for the terminal device is transmitted using only sub-carriers selected from within a restricted frequency band which is smaller than and within the system frequency band. The terminal device is aware of the restricted frequency band, and as such need only buffer and process data within this restricted frequency band during periods where higher-layer data is being transmitted. The terminal device buffers and processes the full system frequency band during periods when physical-layer control information is being transmitted.

摘要: A base station communicating data to/from plural mobile terminals over plural OFDM sub-carriers within a coverage area. The base station allocates transmission resources provided by a first group of the plural OFDM sub-carriers within a first frequency band to mobile terminals of a first type and allocates transmission resources provided by a second group of the plural OFDM sub-carriers within a second frequency band to terminals of a second type, the second group being smaller than the first group and the second frequency band selected from within the first frequency band. The base station transmits control information including resource allocation information for terminals of the first type over a first bandwidth corresponding to the combined first and second groups of OFDM sub-carriers and transmits control information including resource allocation information for terminals of the second type over a second bandwidth corresponding to the second group of OFDM sub-carriers.

摘要: A method of communicating data between a base station and a plurality of terminal devices in a wireless telecommunications system. The method comprises transmitting data from the base station to the plurality of terminal devices in a multicast transmission and transmitting response signals from the terminal devices to the base station to indicate whether the respective terminal devices have successfully received the multicast transmission. The use of a multicast transmission provides an efficient mechanism for communicating the same data to a plurality of terminal device, for example as might be desired in a machine-type communication network. In combination with this, the use of individual response signals, such as ACK/NACK signalling, from the terminal devices allows the base station, or other entity, such as a machine-type communications server, to track which terminal devices have indicated successful receipt of the multicast transmission, and to instigate an appropriate re-transmission protocol accordingly.

The communications terminal is configured to attach for communication to the high bandwidth interface, and in response to receiving a command from the mobile communications network, to detach from the high bandwidth interface and to re-attach to the low bandwidth interface for communicating the data to or from the mobile communications network via the low bandwidth interface.

摘要: A mobile communications network can establish one or more communications bearers for communicating data packets to/from a communications terminal via a radio network and a core network, each of the communications bearers established using context information associated with connections from the communications terminal to destination addresses, or to the communications terminal from source addresses. The communications terminal can, in an idle state, communicate a short signalling message data packet to a base station of the radio network, using predetermined parameters for configuring a mobile communications terminal transmitter, which correspond with parameters with which a receiver in the base station can receive the short message data packet, the short message data packet including an indication of context information usable by the mobile communications network for communicating the short message data packet to a mobility manager of the mobile communications network. The short message data packet can be context-less or quasi-context-less.
