    Abstract: A method for geosteering while drilling a well in a subterranean formation using a downhole assembly having a toolface comprises measuring at least one motion-related downhole parameter relative to the toolface angle so as to generate azimuthally-associated data, using the azimuthally-associated data to assess formation anisotropy, and using the anisotropy assessment to manually or automatically steer a well while drilling the well. The motion-related downhole parameter may relate to motion of an asymmetric bit or bent housing or bent housing section. The downhole parameter may be selected from the group consisting of angular velocity, angular acceleration, tangential acceleration, radial acceleration, axial acceleration, cross-axial acceleration, total acceleration, high-frequency torsional oscillation (HFTO) severity, band-pass-filtered root-mean-square (RMS) acceleration, band-pass-filtered peak acceleration and the azimuthally-associated data may comprise azimuthally-associated measurements of any of the motion-related parameters and/or azimuthally-associated calculations of compressive strength, Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, stress, and fracture measurement.

    Abstract: A system includes a sensor carrier and an integrated data recorder. The sensor carrier includes an outer sub body and an inner sub body. The inner sub body is coupled to the outer sub body by a support leg. The inner sub body includes a recess formed therein. The sensor carrier includes a flow path defined as the space between the outer sub body, the inner sub body, and the support leg. The integrated data recorder is positioned within the recess of the inner sub body such that the integrated data recorder is substantially at the centerline of the sensor carrier. The integrated data recorder includes a sensor package including one or more drilling dynamics sensors, a processor, a memory module, and an electrical energy source.

    Abstract: A downhole steering tool includes one or more steering blades selectively extendable from a housing. Each steering blade may be extended by fluid pressure within a steering cylinder. Each steering cylinder may be coupled to the interior of a mandrel positioned within the housing through an adjustable orifice. The adjustable orifice may be moved between an open and a partially open position. The adjustable orifice may be controlled by a ring valve.
