摘要: An electrowetting display device comprises a plurality of picture elements (2) having a first support plate (5) including a surface (68) and a second support plate. A space (10) of a picture element between the surface of the first support plate and the second support plate includes at least one first fluid and a second fluid immiscible with each other, the second fluid being electroconductive or polar. The first support plate includes an electrode (46) for applying an electric field in the picture element. It also includes a layer (44) arranged on a side of the electrode facing away from said space. The layer forms an electronic component (33) for applying a voltage to the electrode. The electrode comprises a height difference (86) corresponding to a thickness of the layer (44). The height difference causes an inhomogeneous electric field in the space, providing a preferred direction of motion of the first fluid on application of the electric field.

摘要: The present invention relates to an active matrix display device, more particularly an electrowetting display device, comprising at least two rows of pixels and being provided with selection wires (RW) and data wires (COL) for addressing of the pixels. The pixels in each row are arranged with a respective connection (CW) to a common reset (RST) wire that is arranged to transmit a reset signal. The respective connection (CW) is arranged to be interconnected with the data wire (COL) of the pixel when the pixel is addressed. Further, the respective connection (CW) is arranged with a signal blocking element (D) for preventing a data signal of the pixel from propagating via the reset wire (RST) to pixels in the same row.

摘要: Optical apparatus for a display device. The optical apparatus comprises a cavity, and a first fluid (14) and a second fluid (16), held within the cavity, which are immiscible with each other. The first and second fluids are separated from each other by a meniscus (28) having a peripheral edge (30). The optical apparatus further comprises a fluid motion control system arranged to control movement of the first and second fluids within the cavity using electrostatic forces, and a first surface (26) and a second surface (21). The first surface has a different wettability for the first fluid than for the second surface. The first and second surfaces are arranged in the cavity to determine, upon activation of the fluid motion control system, a motion of the fluids within the cavity which has a preferential initiation at a first part (32) of the peripheral edge.

摘要: A method of operating an electro-optic display apparatus, wherein the display apparatus includes a display device having image regions and a display driving system having a data input for selecting image regions. The data input is connected to the input of a distributor for providing signals for driving the image regions. Each image region has an active display state in which the image region is driven with an active voltage signal. The active voltage signal includes a first signal level which sets an image region to the active display state and a second signal level different from said first signal level and which is applied for a shorter duration than said first signal level. The method comprises the following three steps: (1) applying the first signal level to one of said image regions in response to receiving data on said data input indicating that said image region is to be set to the active display state, (2) applying the second signal level to said image region after said first signal level has been applied; and (3) reapplying said first signal level before receipt of further data for said image region on said data input.

摘要: A system and method for motion compensation of color sequential displays, receiving a motion image data input, extracting an estimate of a motion of an image portion represented in said image data input with a motion estimator, and calculating, for a time instance of display of each image subframe of an image frame, a compensated representation for reducing display artifacts with a processor, wherein each subframe represents a different aspect of the image frame. The subframes are preferably different color planes of the image frame. The processor preferably performs a bilinear interpolation where the compensated image boundary does not fall on a display pixel boundary. The motion compensation algorithm is preferably robust in the face of erroneous motion vectors. The system and method is advantageously used in single panel liquid crystal display projection systems, although the techniques are applicable to various image display technologies.

摘要: Method of calculating new luminance value data based on original luminance value data to be displayed on a matrix display device, where luminance value data are coded in sub-fields, and double-line addressing for the least significant sub-fields is used for reducing the addressing time. A reduction of the difference between the new data and the original data is obtained by computing a new common value for the least significant sub-fields of a set of neighboring or adjacent lines, and new values for the most significant sub-fields of each line of said set of adjacent lines. The method comprises embodiments which are applicable to both binary and non-binary sub-fields.

摘要: A display device (600) is driven in a number of sub-fields. Each of the sub-fields is for outputting a respective illumination level by the display device. In each sub-field, a pixel of the displayed image may emit an amount of light corresponding to the particular sub-field, depending on whether it is switched on or not. A required intensity level of the pixel is realized by selecting an appropriate combination of sub-fields in which the pixel is switched on. A plurality of sub-fields is available to realize a particular intensity level. The image display unit (604) has a selection unit (608) that is arranged to select the combination of sub-fields for a particular pixel from a plurality of available combinations in such a way that any artifact is as small as possible. This selection is carried out on the basis of a further pixel in the current image.

摘要: A flat panel display (PD) comprises a plurality of display elements (C) arranged in a matrix of rows and columns, and electrodes (Sc, D, Su) associated to display elements (C) in a row or a column. The flat panel display (PD) is driven in a sub field mode wherein a field period (Tf) of a received display information (Pi) is divided (1) into consecutive sub field periods (Tsf) having an address period (Tp) preceding a display period (Ts). within a field period (Tf), a predetermined order of weight factors (Wf) each associated with a corresponding one of the display periods (Ts) is generated (1). The electrodes (Sc, D, Su) are interconnected in at least two groups (Sce, Sco; Sue, Suo). Drive signals corresponding to the weight factors (Wf) are supplied (2,3,4,5; 2,3,4,5,6) to each of the at least two groups. Within a same field period (Tf), the predetermined order of weight factors (Wf) is adapted to associate a different order of weight factors (Wf) to the display periods (Ts) of the at least two groups of electrodes (Sce, Sco; Sue, Suo).
