    摘要: A railway hopper car has longitudinally spaced hoppers on both sides of a center sill. The hoppers have door assemblies which may be opened and closed by a door operating mechanism. The door operating mechanism includes a pneumatic cylinder which rotates a lever to move an operating rod longitudinally within the center sill. Door operating levers are rotatably supported on the railway car and pivotally connected to the operating rod to be rotated when it moves. The door operating levers are pivotally connected with struts connected with the door on the hoppers. The mechanism is configured so that all forces are substantially coplanar in a vertical plane passing through the centerline of the center sill to reduce lateral twisting forces in the mechanism. Adjustment of the length of the strut is provided for positioning of the door operating levers during assembly.

    摘要: A fifth wheel plate assembly for a trailer hitch for securing trailers to railway flat cars includes a top plate having an opening in which a movable clamp or lock jaw is supported for grasping and locking the kingpin of a trailer to the fifth wheel. The lock jaw is provided with slidable extensions including transversely extending brackets between which a threaded follower is positioned, the same in turn being actuated by means of a lock screw mounted for rotation on the fifth wheel assembly. The follower in response to rotation of the screw actuates the jaw and slide assembly for moving the same between kingpin engaging and disengaging positions. A plurality of concavo-convex washers are supported between the follower and one of the brackets thus permitting a limited longitudinal movement in one direction of slide assembly and jaw to cushion certain impact stresses exerted on the kingpin contained between the clamping members and thereby preventing damage to the drive screw and associated structure.

    摘要: A railway well car for the transport of containers has a depressed floor section supported between lateral side structures and longitudinal end structures. Each end structure is supported on a frameless radial truck. The frameless radial truck has four longitudinally spaced resilient support elements on each lateral side thereof. The end structure has a reinforcement structure for transferring loads from the car body to the support elements. The reinforcement structure includes a pair of transverse beams extending from a stub center sill to respective side structures. Longitudinal beams extend from the transverse beams to an end sill structure and to a girder structure at the end of the well portion of the car. Each longitudinal beam supports a pair of box structure truck engagement means engaging the resilient support elements. The transverse beams and the longitudinal beams are comprised of channel members attached to the undersurface of a shear plate forming tubular torque box structures therewith. At the end of the well portion diagonally extending support members and tapered plates efficiently beam loads in the side structures to the reinforcement structure and to the truck.

An over-center locking arm has two spaced catches which co-act with two latches on a latching arrangement to selectively provide a sealed, a pressure blow-off, and a hatch open position. A rotative adjustment is provided to enable adjustment of the sealing pressure of the hatch cover on the hatch.

    摘要: A fifth wheel plate assembly for a trailer hitch for securing trailers to railway flat cars includes a top plate having an opening in which a movable clamp or lock jaw is supported for grasping and locking the kingpin of a trailer to the fifth wheel. The lock jaw is provided with slidable extensions which are engaged by a lock screw mounted below the fifth wheel plate and which moves the lock jaw between open and closed positions. When in a closed position a slidable bolt assembly is movable transversely of the extensions into keeper openings within the extensions for maintaining the locking jaw in its closed position. The locking bolt is slidable in a tube provided with a diagonal recess which accommodates the stem of a manually operated handle for sliding the locking bolt. A flag or indicator is pivotally mounted underneath the top plate on an axis parallel to the axis of the locking bolt. The indicator includes an arm at one end and a flag at the other end. When the bolt is in a locked position relative to the keepers on the extension the flag is visible having pivoted by gravity to a lowered position and when the bolt is in an unlocked position the flag is out of sight shielded to the view of the operator.
