Abstract:
A method for providing automatic communication addressing comprising the steps of: locating a communication mark, if one is present, on a medium containing information; obtaining at least one address directly or indirectly from the communication mark; inputting the address into an address function of a communication device; and initiating a communication of the information to the address through the communication device.
Abstract:
A system for adding value to a host device via a mobile communication device is described. The system includes: a host device configured for providing additional value to be utilized, wherein the additional value includes at least one printing device function and is provided in response to receiving an authentication code; a central system configured for providing the authentication code for inputting into the host device to authorize the at least one printing device function to be utilized; and a mobile communication device configured for negotiating the additional value to be applied to the host device.
Abstract:
A method for printing with a custom colorant material stored in a container having a memory storage element. The memory storage element includes information related to the custom colorant material. In the method, the information is received from the memory storage element. A custom color table is implemented, and the custom color table is employed during printing of the custom colorant material.

Abstract:
Example embodiments relate to identification of regions in which unauthorized products are available. For example, in some embodiments, requests for verification of authenticity of a product may be received. Each request may be associated with a verification code and location data identifying a physical location of the product. Based on the requests, example embodiments may then determine whether a particular region including the physical location identified by the location data is likely to be a region in which unauthorized products are available.
Abstract:
A scanner is disclosed that operates to maintain the image sensor in the scanner at a proper exposure level during the scanning of a page despite variations in the scan rate. The scanner includes an illumination system operable to produce light in response to receiving power and to project the light, as a scanning light, onto the page being scanned. In addition, the scanner includes apparatus for moving the scanning light relative to the page at a scan rate, an image sensor for measuring the light reflected from the page and an exposure control device for controlling the exposure of the image sensor. The exposure control device operates to control the exposure of the image sensor by regulating the power in relationship to the scan rate.
Abstract:
An image scanner is provided that includes a transparent platen for supporting a page during a scanning operation, an automatic document feeder and an apparatus for detecting if the page is present on the platen. The apparatus includes an indicium positioned above a predetermined area on the platen. In order to determine if a page is present on the platen, the predetermined area is scanned. If the indicium can be detected, then it is assumed that a page is not present on the platen. If, however, the indicium is not detected, then it is assumed that a page is present on the platen and the user may then be notified.
Abstract:
In one example a media authorization code may be authenticated in a printer to authorize the colorant supply to print when a counter does not exceed a predetermined amount of authorized media units.

Abstract:
The flexible printing system is comprised of a printer that has printing characteristics that can be updated. A printer cartridge comprises printer data memory that either stores new printing characteristics or stores a location from the Internet from which these characteristics can be downloaded. The printer accesses the cartridge's printer data memory and checks the stored printing characteristics. If the printer can use these characteristics and they differ from the characteristics that are presently being used by the printer, the printer updates its printing characteristics using the printer data memory's printing characteristics. In one embodiment, the printer characteristics are color tables and dithering algorithms.
