摘要: Light and heavy constituents of refuse material are separated by delivering the material through a tubular inlet into the upper portion of a vertical separating chamber to drop onto and past declumping means and then to a spreader which directs it to fall through an annular venturi throat. As the material descends it is subjected to upwardly moving air of substantial velocity to separate lighter constituents of the material and draw them off from the separating chamber above the discharge end of the inlet. Heavier constituents are collected from the lower portion of the chamber spaced below the spreader.

摘要: Apparatus is provided for comminuting town waste compost in the form of a vertically disposed foraminous cylinder within which a shaft having a plurality of radial shearing arms rotates rapidly for shearing the compost and forcing it through the perforations of the cylinder so that the resulting product consists of particles of substantially uniform size less than 1/4 -inch mean diameter. The cylinder is made from abrasion-resistant metal and has from about 50 percent to 65 percent of its surface area closed and the remainder of the surface open in the form of perforations.

摘要: Means are provided for assisting separation of the lightweight material from the heavier weight material of refuse material in a system wherein the refuse material is delivered into the upper portion of a vertical separating chamber to drop down past a spreader and through a venturi throat between the spreader and the wall defining the chamber. The separation assisting means takes numerous forms, i.e., bypass passage means through the spreader member, a steadying device for the spreader member suspending rod, a bounce-deflection device below the chamber outlet and above a heavy material receiver, air streams from within a hollow rod passage through a declumper, flushing air streams from the upper conical deflecting surface of the spreader member, a deflector venturi ring device within the chamber below the spreader member, and supplementary high velocity flushing air streams directed through the descending material from the walls of the chamber below the spreader member.

摘要: 1,052,164. Composting. NEW LIFE FOUNDATION. April 5, 1965 [April 6, 1964], No. 14381/65. Headings C1B and C1C. An apparatus for batch-wise aerobic composting of organic material comprises a tank for containing a bed of the material, air diffusion pots at the bottom of the tank, and an agitator which is adapted to move longitudinally to-andfro through the bed while continuously upwardly withdrawing material from the bed throughout its depth and returning the material to the bed. The agitator is in the form of a bucket elevator carried by a frame running on wheels above the tank and is associated with water spray means and a conveyer which, on completion of composting, deflects the falling material on to a conveyer extending the length of the tank. Material which has been finely divided and mixed with water may be digested first at 110‹ C., then at 140‹ C., and sterilized at 165‹ C. Cooling and partial drying may be effected in the same apparatus.
