    摘要: There is provided a liquid crystal display apparatus having a high contrast ratio in an oblique direction and small color change depending upon a viewing angle.A liquid crystal panel according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: a liquid crystal cell; a first polarizer placed on one side of the liquid crystal cell; a second polarizer placed on the other side of the liquid crystal cell; a first O-plate placed between the liquid crystal cell and the first polarizer; a second O-plate placed between the liquid crystal cell and the second polarizer; a first biaxial retardation layer placed between the liquid crystal cell and the first O-plate; and a second biaxial retardation layer placed between the liquid crystal cell and the second O-plate. The first and the second O-plates are solidified layers or cured layers of a bar-shaped liquid crystal compound arranged in a hybrid alignment; and a tilt angle (θP) of the bar-shaped liquid crystal compound on the polarizer side is larger than a tilt angle (θB) thereof on the biaxial retardation layer side.

    摘要: An optical element of the invention comprises at least two laminated layers of at least one kind of reflective polarizer (a); and at least one layer of at least one kind of retardation layer (b) for changing polarization properties laminated between the reflective polarizers (a), the combination of the layers being designed so as to provide a incident-light transmittance depending on an incident angle of an incident light and designed such that a shielded light is not absorbed but reflected, wherein at least one layer of the reflective polarizer (a) is a circular polarization type reflective polarizer (a1) capable of transmitting a certain circularly polarized light and selectively reflecting an oppositely circularly polarized light; at least one layer of the reflective polarizer (a) is a linear polarization type reflective polarizer (a2) capable of transmitting one of perpendicular linearly polarized lights and selectively reflecting the other of the perpendicular linearly polarized lights; and the retardation layer (b) is a layer (b1) having a front (in the normal direction) retardation value of about λ/4 and having a retardation value of at least λ/8 with respect to an incident light inclined by at least 30° to the normal direction. The optical element can effectively shield transmitted lights with respect to obliquely incident lights and can control coloring.

    摘要: An optical film having excellent light utilization efficiency and high brightness, and a liquid crystal display using the optical film. The optical film is formed by laminating integrally a brightness enhancement film (A) that separates natural light into transmitted light and reflected light and a collimating film (B) having an uneven portion on a surface thereof. Since an air interface is eliminated by the integral lamination of the brightness enhancement film and the collimating film, stray light is reduced, and the brightness enhancement film has an improved efficiency in reflecting and polarizing light; thereby, enhancing the brightness.
