摘要： A mobile communications system for communicating data to and/or from mobile communications devices. The mobile communications system comprises one or more base stations, each of which includes a transmitter and a receiver operable to provide a wireless access interface for communicating data to and/or from the mobile communications devices, the wireless access interface providing on a downlink a host carrier, the host carrier providing a plurality of resource elements across a first frequency range for communicating data; and a first and second mobile communications devices. The wireless access interface provided by the base stations is arranged to provide a virtual carrier, the virtual carrier providing one or more resource elements within a second frequency range which is within and smaller than the first frequency range, and the second mobile communications device is operable, upon detection of the virtual carrier, to receive downlink communications via the virtual carrier.

摘要： A telecommunications system communicating data to/from one or more terminals and a network, including one or more transmitters operable to transmit first and second carriers over respective first and second frequency bandwidths. During a first time period the transmitters can transmit data receivable by first and second classes of terminals on the first and second carriers. During a second different time period, the transmitters can transmit data to the second terminal class on the first and second carriers in combination. A data transmission format on the first carrier is incompatible with a user data transmission format on the second carrier, during the first time period, and the transmitters can transmit control data on the first carrier in the first time period receivable by the second terminal class to enable the second terminal class to maintain synchronization with the first carrier during the first time period.

The mobile terminals of first type transmit random access request messages to a base station of the network requesting uplink radio resources on a first random access channel. The mobile terminals of second type transmit random access request messages to the base station of the network requesting uplink radio resources on a second random access channel on sub-carriers within the second sub-carrier group.

摘要： Embodiments of the current invention reduce interference from a mobile station (UE) uplink transmission to a received broadcast downlink transmission through a network-based scheduling of time-slotted downlink broadcast transmissions, so that they do not occur concurrently with uplink transmissions. The invention allows low cost, low power UEs to be designed and built by use of the following techniques: (i) downlink broadcast transmissions are time-slotted; (ii) UEs operate either in half-duplex mode for transmission and reception of unicast services, or in full duplex mode where additional bandpass or additional highpass filtering can be applied to the DL unicast carrier; (iii) when unicast services are active for a UE, the UE informs the network of the broadcast services that are being decoded; and (iv) the network schedules unicast transmissions, broadcast transmissions, or both unicast and broadcast transmissions such that the uplink unicast transmission to a UE is never time-coincident with the broadcast transmissions to that UE.

The base station comprises functionality for transmitting a base station duplex capability message to user equipments using a transmission format which is common to a plurality of duplex modes. A first user equipment comprises a transceiver which receives the base station duplex capability message. A RACH characteristics processor determines at least one transmit characteristic for an access message in response to the base station duplex capability message and a RACH transmit controller controls the transmission of an access message to the first base station in response to the at least one transmit characteristic.
