Abstract: A sensing device is provided. For example, a sensing device may include a sensing element, a power supply, and a processor that controls application of power from the power supply to the sensing element and measures a response of the sensing element. The processor controls the application of power from the power supply to the sensing element according to an adaptive duty cycle in which power is applied to the sensing element repeatedly for a steady-state time period and, for each application of power for a steady-state time period, power is applied to the sensing element two or more times for a non-steady-state time period. The steady-state time period is a time period which is long enough for the sensing element to reach a steady state response. The non-steady-state time period is a time period which is not long enough for the sensing element to reach a steady state response.

Abstract: An explosion retaining housing includes a sheet metal member or outer skin which at least in part forms an interior region of the housing. At least one structural element provides additional strength to the member to retain the explosion in the region. The structural element can be inside of, or, outside of the region. The structural element can have a plurality of components which cooperate together to resist the force of an explosion in the interior region.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product for utilizing an ultrasonic sensor compensating for the physical conditions of an internal battery compartment (e.g., temperature and/or humidity), to detect a hazardous battery condition, is provided. An example system includes a battery case defining an internal battery compartment and one or more battery cells contained in the internal battery compartment. The example system further includes an acoustic transmitter disposed within the internal battery compartment and configured to transmit an acoustic signal. In addition, the example system includes an acoustic receiver also disposed within the internal battery compartment and positioned to receive the transmitted acoustic signal. The example system monitors the time of flight of the acoustic signal and detects the hazardous battery condition of the one or more battery cells based on a change in the time of flight of the acoustic signal.

Abstract: A flow calibration device and method for a gas monitoring system. The flow calibration device includes, but not limited to: an inlet configured to facilitate an inflow of a gas flow sample from a nose grip of the gas monitoring system; an outlet configured to facilitate an outflow of the gas flow sample to a port manifold of the gas monitoring system; a flow channel defined between the inlet and the outlet; a pressure transducer, configured to calibrate at least one sample pressure transducer of the gas monitoring system; and a valve positioned between the inlet and the outlet, configured to adjust the flow rate of the gas flow sample between a first benchmark flow rate and a second benchmark flow rate.
