Frame structures and signaling arrangements for interference aware scheduling may be applicable to a local area radio system to complement existing wide area cellular systems, like GSM/UMTS/HSPA/LTE. In certain embodiments a method is provided including preparing a frame for transmission in a wireless communication system. The method can also include incorporating an interference report into the frame. The interference report is directly associated with a corresponding resource. The method can further include transmitting the interference report within the frame in the wireless communication system.

A method is disclosed that includes selecting one or more terminals involved in a device-to-device communication to which interference caused by a transmission to one or more other terminals should be suppressed, and choosing a number of degrees of freedom from a predetermined number of degrees of freedom to be used to suppress interference towards the selected one or more terminals. The method also includes using the remaining degrees of freedom from the predetermined number to increase signal quality to the one or more other terminals and performing precoding based on the chosen number of degrees of freedom and the remaining degrees of freedom. An approach for providing interference measurements for device-to-device communication is disclosed. A logic generates a control signal to instruct a plurality of stations to perform measurement relating to interference or path loss by the stations. The logic then receives measurement information from the stations and determines, based on the measurement information, whether resources are to be scheduled to provide direct communication between two of the stations.

The receiving party determines the second parameter by its own locally stored mapping rule, and an indicator in each CCH codeword may be used to inform the receiver that the two (or more) CCH codewords are associated with one another and to use its mapping rule to determine the second parameter.

An aspect of this invention is a definition of a set of reused channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) resources among transmission points, which can be lower power nodes, for intra-cell coordinated multi-point (CoMP) operation. Separate CSI-RS resources are defined for each transmission point for sporadic separate measurements to be made by user equipment. The sporadic measurements may be implemented with low additional overhead, and are used for generating potentially simplified CSI feedback to an evolved NodeB that enables adapting shared channel reuse and also potentially making related channel quality indicator (CQI) compensation.

A network signals an allocation (PDCCH) for a downlink shared channel (PDSCH); and also signals an indication (reference signal RS) whether a resource block (PRB) comprising the allocated downlink shared channel is used for a control channel transmission (E-PDCCH). The UE tests for the phase shift by blind decoding. Locations of common pilot sequences are predetermined, and includes 1) in each subframe, a pilot sequence is disposed in a first symbol position for each of at least two staggered sub-carriers, and 2) in at least one subframe, at least one pilot sequence is disposed in other than the first symbol position and in a sub-carrier other than any of the at least two staggered sub-carriers. Dedicated pilot sequences, whose locations in the frame are not predetermined, are disposed in response to an indication of channel quality received over a wireless link. Common pilot sequences may relate to one or two transmit antennas, and dedicated pilot sequences may enable addition of third and fourth transmit antennas.
