    摘要: An apparatus is provided to reduce the defect rate and decrease production yield by removing foreign objects even when the foreign objects are mixed in with the thermally sprayed film. The operation for forming thermally sprayed film on inner surface of cylinder bore is paused, and protrusions generated in the thermally sprayed film by foreign objects are detected by visual observation and removed by a manual operation. The thermal spraying operation is then performed until thermally sprayed film reaches the prescribed film thickness. After formation of the thermally sprayed film, a finishing operation is performed by means of honing.

    摘要: Before a thermally sprayed coating is deposited onto a cylindrical internal surface of a cylinder bore 3a rough surface 13 is formed to increase the adhesion of the thermally sprayed coating. After forming the rough surface is completed, an internal diameter measurement surface that is smoother than the rough surface is formed on an axial end section of the internal cylindrical surface. The internal diameter of the cylinder bore is measured at the internal diameter measurement surface with an internal diameter measuring instrument. An appropriate thickness for the thermally sprayed coating is determined based on the measurement result.

    摘要: A cylindrical internal surface processing apparatus has an internal diameter measuring device and a controller. The internal diameter measuring device measures an internal diameter of an internal cylindrical bore formed in a base member to obtain a measurement result of the internal diameter of the internal cylindrical bore. The controller includes a surface roughening control section and a quality determining section. The surface roughening control section controls operation of a surface roughening equipment to form a rough surface section and an internal diameter measuring surface section on the internal cylindrical bore. The internal diameter measuring surface section is smoother than the rough surface section. The quality determining section determines if the rough surface section is acceptable to allow a subsequent thermally sprayed coating to be applied on the rough surface section based on the internal diameter measurement result at the internal diameter measuring surface section of the internal cylindrical bore.

    摘要: The disclosure relates to surface roughening methods in which a cutting tool having a radial cutting blade with first and second cutting edges is fed along a longitudinal axis of an article while rotating the cutting tool about the axis. The first cutting edge forms a first machined pattern of peaks and valleys on a surface of the article, and the second cutting edge removes at least a portion of the peaks to form roughened fracture surfaces in a second machined pattern defining an arrangement of grooves, corresponding to the valleys, separated by lands, corresponding to the roughened fracture surfaces. The first and second walls may include concave regions within the grooves. The disclosure also provides cutting tools useful in practicing the methods, and cylindrical articles having interior or exterior surfaces roughened using the methods. The methods may have applications to fabrication of cylinder blocks for internal combustion engines.
