Abstract:
An immunogenic reagent which produces an immune response which is protective against Bacillus anthracis, said reagent comprising one or more polypeptides which together represent up to three domains of the full length Protective Antigen (PA) of B. anthracis or variants of these, and at least one of said domains comprises domain 1 or domain 4 of PA or a variant thereof. The polypeptides of the immunogenic reagent as well as full length PA are produced by expression from E. coli. High yields of polypeptide are obtained using this method. Cells, vectors and nucleic acids used in the method are also described and claimed.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a pharmaceutical combination which comprises (a) a HER-1 or a HER-2 antibody or (b) at least one antineoplastic agent selected from the group consisting of aromatase inhibitors, antiestrogens, topoisomerase I inhibitors, topoisomerase II inhibitors, microtubule active agents, protein kinase C inhibitors, anti-angiogenic compounds, gonadorelin agonists, anti-androgens, histone deacetylase inhibitors and S-adenosylmethionine decarboxylase inhibitors; and (c) an epothilone derivative of formula I and optionally at least one pharmaceutically acceptable carrier for simultaneous, separate or sequential use, in particular, for the treatment of a proliferative disease, especially a solid tumor disease; a pharmaceutical composition comprising such a combination; the use of such a combination for the preparation of a medicament for the treatment of a proliferative disease; a commercial package or product comprising such a combination as a combined preparation for simultaneous, separate or sequential use; and to a method of treatment of a warm-blooded animal, especially a human.
Abstract:
An illuminating reflector system is provided for transmitting first and second frequency bands for satellite and terrestrial communications. The illuminating reflector includes a first reflector configured to transmit a first portion of the first frequency band in an dispersed beam, to reflect a second portion of the first frequency band, and to transmit the second frequency band; a second reflector configured to reflect the second frequency band received from the first reflector; and a primary reflector configured to receive the second portion of the first frequency band reflected from the first reflector, to receive the second frequency band reflected from the second reflector, and to reflect the second portion of the first frequency band and the second frequency band in a substantially collimated beam.
Abstract:
A method for identifying a vaccine candidate, said method comprising selecting a protein from the proteome of a target organism on the basis of a property selected from a biophysical property or the amino acid composition of that protein. For example, using this method a first set of data for a said property of a one or more vaccine antigens of a particular genus is collected, and a control set of data for said property of one or more random proteins from the same genus is also collected. These datasets are then compared and statistical differences noted. The proteome of a target species may then be examined and one or more vaccine candidates selected from that proteome on the basis that they have a property more similar to that of the first set of data
Abstract:
Spore coat-associated proteins from members of Bacillus genera, and in particular spore-coat associated protein N (CotN), have utilization as adjuvants in vaccine formulations. The vaccine formulations most likely contain a virulence factor of bacterial origin, which in the case of Bacillus genera is the protective antigen.

Abstract:
A recombinant microorganism comprises an asporogenic Bacillus subtilis strain in which a gene encoding a protease enzyme has been downregulated or inactivated. In particular sigma factorspoIIAC is inactivated such that the strain is asporogenic. These strains are particularly useful as expression vehicles for proteins such as protective antigen (PA) of Bacillus anthracis.
