Multicomponent polymeric fibers are introduced into a forming chamber and are infilled at least into the interior void spaces of a support web. At least some of the infilled multicomponent component fibers are self-bonded to each other to form a porous web that is embedded within the support web. The porous embedded web may contain particles that are bonded to the multicomponent fibers of the web. The optional particles in the porous embedded web may be e.g. abrasive, absorbent, etc.

A nonwoven web and method of making a nonwoven web is disclosed. The nonwoven web comprises a plurality of randomly oriented and interconnected cut fibers. At least 10% wt. of the fibers are multicomponent fibers comprising at least a first portion having a first melting point and a second portion having a second melting point. The first melting point is less than the second melting point. Further the nonwoven comprises a plurality of benefiting particles. The first portion of the multicomponent fibers melts and coalesces to secure together the plurality of fibers and secure the benefiting particles to the fibers to form a web.

The multicomponent fibers are then bonded to each other to form a porous coherent web, and the porous coherent web is bonded to the first porous substrate, so as to form a porous multilayer article. The porous coherent web contains particles that are bonded to the multicomponent fibers of the web. The particles in the porous coherent web may be e.g. abrasive, absorbent, etc.

A scouring material comprises a three-dimensional non-woven web (3) of entangled fibres (5) bonded to one another at mutual contact points (7). The fibres comprise natural vegetable fibres in an amount of at least 50% by weight, and crimped synthetic fibres in an amount of at least 5% by weight. The fibres, throughout the web, have a substantially continuous coating of binder resin; and the web of bonded fibres has a maximum density of 60 kg/m3. A method of making the scouring material comprises the steps of: forming a three-dimensional non-woven web of entangled fibres; roll-coating the web with a binder resin; and curing the binder resin to form the scouring material.

In some exemplary embodiments, the randomly oriented discrete fibers include multi-component fibers having at least a first region having a first melting temperature and a second region having a second melting temperature, wherein the first melting temperature is less than the second melting temperature. At least a portion of the oriented discrete fibers are bonded together at a plurality of intersection points with the first region of the multi-component fibers. In certain embodiments, the patterned air-laid nonwoven fibrous webs include particulates. Methods of making and using such patterned air-laid nonwoven fibrous webs are also disclosed.
