    摘要: A surgical instrument is disclosed that facilitates the implantation of one of a number of differently sized or differently configured hip stem prostheses into a proximal end of a femur while also providing a surgeon with a substantial amount of rotational control over the prosthesis during the implantation. A suitable hip stem prosthesis is selected from a family of hip stem prostheses of varying sizes and dimensions. The surgical instrument attaches to the selected hip stem prosthesis via first and second spaced engagement portions such that the instrument is operable to exert rotational control over the selected hip stem prosthesis. The first engagement portion is an impaction portion configured to engage a corresponding impaction feature on a proximal body portion of the hip stem prosthesis. The second engagement portion is an adjustable clamping portion configured to clampingly receive the neck of the hip stem prosthesis, regardless of the prosthesis size.

    摘要: A microphone for transducing between an acoustical signal and an electrical signal, comprises a housing and a motor assembly disposed within the housing. The motor assembly includes a backplate and a diaphragm attached to the backplate via a spacer. The diaphragm comprising a ring and a film, the diaphragm vibrates in response to an acoustical signal, wherein the film is formed from an amorphous or semi-crystallized polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) and a metal layer is attached to the film. The film is completely covered by the metal layer and a portion of the metal is removed using a direct energy source, leaving a portion of the film directly exposed resulting in reducing the parasitic capacitances between the backplate and the diaphragm and increasing the sensitivity. Alternatively, the film is partially covered by the metal layer. At least one opening is formed on the microphone and acoustically/electrically coupled to an opening formed on a main printed circuit board of an electronic device, defining a surface mountable microphone.

    摘要: A device for augering a conical hole in a solid medium that includes a first elongated member that extends along a longitudinal axis and a cutting blade having a cutting section and a non-cutting section coupled to the first elongated member. The rod is adapted to be rotated about the longitudinal axis. A motor is coupled to the first elongated member which rotates the cutting blade about the longitudinal axis. A shroud is provided through which the first elongated member passes. The shroud attaches to a hydraulic unit. Activation of the hydraulic unit causes the first elongated member to move in a longitudinal direction, which causes the cutting blade to move in a radial direction thereby forming a conical hole in a solid medium. The device is used for forming holes used in foundations and anchors. Also disclosed is a method of operation of the device to form a conical hole in solid media.

The apparatus includes a vertical support, a plurality of spaced media consolidation plates swingably mounted to the vertical support, a rib disposed along a lower edge of respective ones of the consolidation plates and a bearing plate secured to the vertical support. The apparatus can be used to install a bearing and moment foundation having an upper surface, a lower surface and a converging side surface. The upper surface is adapted to receive a pushing force for pushing the foundation into the soil and the side surface adapted to contact the soil when a pushing force is applied to the upper surface. The anchoring device can also be used to install a pier foundation having a plug, an installation load bearing member, an installed load bearing member and a cap. A grillage assembly can be used to install the foundation and includes at least a pair of intermediate members forming a grillage, at least one anchor securing the grillage to the soil and a plate member secured to the grillage intermediate members and positioned above the soil surface to assist in at least one of installing a foundation, removing an anchor, testing the strength of an anchor and testing the strength of a foundation. Also disclosed are methods of installing an anchor and a foundation.

    摘要: A bearing pier foundation for compacting soil that includes a plug extending along the longitudinal axis having a first section and a second section. The first section adapted to receive a pushing force for pushing the plug into the soil and the second section adapted to rest on the soil to be compacted. A plane, which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, passes through the second section. The second section includes a first part and a second part. The first part has an inner edge and an outer edge intersecting the plane. The outer edge of the first part attaches to the first section and is positioned further away from the longitudinal axis than the inner edge of the first part. The second part has an outer edge attached to the first part inner edge. The second part extends downwardly from the plane and the second part has a tapering segment extending along the longitudinal axis and includes an upper end and a lower end. The upper end is positioned closer to the plane and has a larger geometric diameter than the lower end. The segment continuously tapers from the upper end to the lower end. The bearing pier foundation can be used in connection with a sheath which conforms to the outer surface of the bearing pier foundation. Further, the bearing pier foundation can be used in combination with a hydraulic setting tool. Also, disclosed is a method for installing the plug and sheath into the soil to compress and consolidate the soil thereunder.

    摘要: An anchor or foundation apparatus and a method for installing said apparatus in an earthen hole. The apparatus employs pivotally swingable plates which swing in an arc upwardly or downwardly into the surrounding media to fix the device therein. The surface of the plates forced into the surrounding media is provided with oppositely disposed rib means extending along the upper and lower edges of the plates and said rib means serve as media containment means. The media containment means extends the zone of media consolidation and the plane for dislodgement of the device a considerable distance outwardly into the surrounding media. The hydraulic force exerted to swing the plates into the surrounding media is measured, from which the strength of the installation is known.
