In a marine vessel (such as a yacht or other boat) in the range of 45-75 feet a chilled water air conditioning system is provided having a significant advantage over split central systems. Utilizing two-four water chilling modular units the chilled water capacity only needs to accommodate about 75-90% of the calculated BTU heat load for the vessel, while the air handlers are rated at about 100% of the calculated BTU heat load. Each modular unit has no refrigerant connection exterior of the casing containing all of its components, including a condenser coil, evaporator coil, compressor, reversing valve, and expansion tubing, all operatively connected to each other by refrigerant lines within the casing. Chilled water is circulated into and out of the evaporator coil by an exterior pump and expansion tank operatively connected to each of the modular units, the chilled water passing through a coil unit of an air handler. An exterior seawater pump pumps substantially ambient seawater into the condenser coil and is subsequently discharged to the exterior of the marine vessel, through its hull.

A wire line well tool is connected to a fluid gun which is run into the hole along with the tool. Should the tool become stuck, the gun is actuated, e.g. electrically, to direct mud active fluid around the stuck tool and the inside of the well bore, to destroy the pressure imbalance about the tool and to exert a radial force pushing the tool toward the center of the hole to free same.

Apparatus for digitally recording the value of pressure and temperature, or other parameters, in a borehole logging instrument. In one embodiment the values of the earth parameter are converted to an A.C. signal, the frequency of which is a function of the value of the parameter. Clock means are provided for presenting, at selected time intervals, voltage pulses of selected short time length. The A.C. signal is gated to a counter for the selected short interval of time, and the count of the counter becomes a measure of the parameter. Solid state memory means are provided, and the output of the counter in the form of binary bits is stored in the memory. Means are provided for retrieving the instrument and reading out of the memory the binary bits as stored.

A ballast circuit for driving fluorescent lamps characterized by a minimum of components has a power transformer constructed to present a source impedance integrated with the transformer and in series with the lamp load sufficient to regulate the load current to within 10% for a selected maximum wattage fluorescent lamp load, such as 18 or 36 watt, and any lesser fluorescent lamp loads. The transformer has a high voltage secondary winding with a reflected impedance at least 6.0 times greater than the reflected impedance of the selected worst case fluorescent lamp wattage load. The integrated magnetics design of this ballast also provides passive short circuit protection, filament current reduction after lamp strike, and cold temperature start-up with a minimum of circuit components.
