Embodiments of the disclosure provide auto-detection in wireless telecommunications. Certain embodiments provide or otherwise implement a specific sequence of bits and/or symbols for auto-detection. The specific sequence of bits can be embodied in or can include output codebits from an encoder in a communication device that can send a wireless transmission including the specific sequence. In one embodiment, the encoder can compute or otherwise generate cyclic redundancy checks (CRCs) or other types of validation checks at the communication device. The specific sequence can be determined using the payload of a packet frame. Both the manner in which the specific sequence is generated and the temporal order in which the specific sequence is received relative to other payload in the packet frame can provide specificity to the sequence.

A delegate-based group channel access method is disclosed for machine-to-machine (M2M) communication. The delegate-based group channel access method groups M2M devices having common characteristics together, assigns a single delegate or multiple delegates from the group according to some criteria, and uses the assigned delegate to perform channel access. This method avoids unnecessary peer-to-peer communication between M2M devices reduces the probability of collision on the channel during initial channel access, and reduces the control signaling overhead. The, delegate-based group channel access method also coordinates the number of slots to backoff so that all M2M devices in the group keep pace with the delegate.

Embodiments of a high-efficiency WLAN (HEW) access point (AP), user device (STA), and methods for communication between HEW APs and STAs in a wireless network are generally described herein. In some embodiments, a HEW AP determines a duration of a low-power time allocation, within a beacon period, that is to be reserved for low-power transmissions by STAs within a service range of the AP. The HEW AP can broadcast time sharing information to STAs within the service range of the AP. The time sharing information can indicate a start time of the duration of the low-power time allocation with respect to a start time of the beacon period and a maximum transmission power for transmissions performed during the low-power time allocation.
