摘要: In order to make a boundary inconspicuous, which is located between an image area which displays an image by translucent pixels and a dummy area which always displays a white color by reflection pixels, a size ratio of transparent areas in color filters of the reflection pixels with respect to reflection areas therein is made larger than a size ratio of transparent areas in color filters of the translucent pixels with respect to reflection areas therein. In such a way, brightness of the display is balanced by adjusting quantities of transmission light through the transparent areas of the reflection pixels with respect to quantities of reflection light generated unexpectedly on transmission areas of the translucent pixels. Then, degrees of whiteness in the translucent pixels and the reflection pixels are approximated to each other.

摘要: In one embodiment, a liquid crystal display device having a plurality of pixels includes a first substrate having an insulating substrate, a first detection element extending in a first direction above the insulating substrate, a second detection element extending in a second direction crossing the first direction and an insulating film provided between the first and second detection circuits. A second substrate is arranged opposing to the first substrate so as to hold a liquid crystal layer therebetween. A detection circuit is provided on the first substrate to detect change of electrostatic capacitance between the first and second detection elements. At least one of the first and second detection elements is an element required for operating the liquid crystal layer.

摘要: In order to suppress noise in display, which would occur due to variations of inclination directions of liquid crystal molecules, and to improve display quality, a first structure in a shape having a discontinuous portion is provided to a first electrode, and a second structure is provided to a second electrode so as to face the discontinuous portion of the first structure. When a voltage is applied to the first and second electrodes to generate an electric field in a liquid crystal layer, the first structure controls the inclination directions of the liquid crystal molecules, and the second structure controls the inclination directions of the liquid crystal molecules existing in the discontinuous portion of the first structure. In the discontinuous portion of the first structure, the amount of light passing through the liquid crystal layer increases, and the liquid crystal molecules are aligned more vertically. Hence, light leakage is reduced.

摘要: A circuit array substrate includes an optically transparent substrate, pixels having switching elements formed on the transparent substrate, gate electrode lines connected to the switching elements, the gate electrode lines being provided on a first insulation film with separating portions in the pixels, signal lines connected to the switching elements, the signal lines being provided on a second insulation film which is different from the first insulation film, and electrically conductive portions provided on the second film to electrically connect the electrode lines with the separating portions to each other. The separating portions reduce electrostatic capacitances defined between the gate electrode lines and the switching elements when the conductive portions are not connected between the separating portions.

摘要: Gate electrode lines 11 formed on glass substrate 3 are separated by separating portions 32 for respective pixels 5 to shorten lengths of gate electrode lines 11. Both end portions of gate electrode lines 11 separated by separating portions 32 are electrically connected by conductive films 42 made from the same materials as signal electrode lines 13. When glass substrate 3 is lifted up while glass substrate 3 is charged with static electricity, the increases in voltages at gate insulation film 31 provided between gate electrode lines 11 and polycrystalline semiconductor film 22 are effectively suppressed so that electrostatic destruction of gate electrode lines 11 can be prevented.
