    摘要: A charging device, suitable for use in an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, is formed of an object to be charged, and a roller-shaped charging member disposed in contact with the object via electroconductive particles and supplied with a voltage to charge the objects. The charging member has a surface layer including an elastic foam and is moved with a surface speed difference relative to the object. The charging member has surface cavities having an average diameter of 5 to 150 &mgr;m and occupying an area percentage of 50 to 90%. An image forming apparatus and a process cartridge therefor including the charging device are also provided.

    摘要: An electrophotographic apparatus includes an electrophotographic photosensitive member; a charger for charging the electrophotographic photosensitive member including a charging member supplied with a voltage and disposed in contact with the photosensitive member so as to form a nip with the photosensitive member to charge the photosensitive member; an exposure device; a developing device; and a transfer device. The photosensitive member includes a surface layer containing a charge-transporting material having an oxidation potential of 0.4-1.0 volt. Charging promoter particles are present at the nip between the photosensitive member and the charging member to injection-charge the photosensitive member. Because of the selection of the charge-transporting material and the presence of the charging promoter particles, the photosensitive member can be effectively injection-charged.

    摘要: Improvement has been made in an image forming method comprising charging electrically an image holding member, forming a latent electrostatic image on the image holding member, developing the latent image with a toner, transferring the toner image onto a toner image receiving medium, and recovering untransferred toner. In this method, a magnetic brush formed from magnetic particles electrifies the image holding member by contact with the image holding member surface, recovers temporarily at least a part of the toner remaining on the image holding member after the image transfer, and transfers the recovered toner further again onto the image holding member, wherein the toner has a weight-average particle diameter of not larger than 1/3 of average particle diameter of the magnetic particles and the magnetic particles contain particles of diameter of not larger than 1/3 of the average particle diameter of the magnetic particles at a content ranging from 0 to 50% by volume. Thereby, contamination of the magnetic particles by the toner and interception of the electric conduction path in the magnetic brush are prevented, and deterioration of the toner is prevented without excessive shearing of the recovered toner with magnetic particles.
