    摘要: A device for mixing immiscible or semi-immiscible liquids and subsequently separating one or more of them followed by transfer is disclosed. An array of elements is utilized with the center decant transfer tube of one element connecting with the mixing tube of the adjacent element to the right. This is used for transfer of the upper phase material, generally known as the effluent phase. Transfer of the lower phase or the residual phase is accomplished by transferring to the mixing tube indicated to the left in the array. The upper phase is first decanted through a center decant tube, and then, prior to mixing, the lower phase is transferred. The sequence of transfer can be reversed if the units are stacked so that movement proceeds in opposite directions in adjacent rows of elements. The lower phase transfer tube is purposefully canted downward, and a two-speed rotation motor may be used in order to convert the system from a counter-double-current distribution system to a standard counter-current distribution device. This is accomplished by quickly passing the lower phase decant, thereby retaining the lower phase in the same tube.

    摘要: An improved field-test method and apparatus for the detection of asbestos by detecting magnesium or iron is described wherein all of the reactions of the test are performed in one reaction tube or column. The method includes the steps of placing a sample in the tube, washing the sample in the tube, adding acid reagent to the sample, and adding a color reagent to the sample in the tube to indicate qualitatively if asbestos is present in the sample. The apparatus is in the form of a compact kit containing multiple columns with caps and other labware needed for the test.

    摘要: A counter-double-current device having an array of interconnected tube elements, each of the elements having a mixing tube, a light phase decant tube and an intermediate phase decant tube. The light and intermediate phase decant tubes are disposed parallel to the mixing tube with the intermediate phase decant tube positioned between the light phase decant tube and the mixing tube. A first juncture tube joins the mixing tube and light phase decant tube while a second juncture tube joins the light and intermediate phase decant tubes. First and second downspout tubes are sealably mounted within the lower portions of the two decant tubes. The first downspout tube extends into the light phase decant tube from its lower portion to a distance which defines a volume between the inner surface of the light phase decant tube and the outer surface of the first downspout tube equal to the combined volumes of the heavy and intermediate phases while the second downspout tube extends into the intermediate phase decant tube by a distance so as to define a volume equal to the volume of the lower phase. The downspout tube extending into the light phase decant tube is connected to the lower portion of the mixing tube of an adjacent element on one side of the array while the downspout tube which extends into the intermediate phase decant tube is connected to the mixing tube of an adjacent element on the opposite side within the array.
