Abstract:
An adaptor for delivering an aerosolized active agent to a patient with concomitant positive pressure ventilation includes an aerosol flow channel having an aerosol inlet port and a patient interface port, and defining an aerosol flow path from the aerosol inlet port to and through the patient interface port; and a ventilation gas flow channel in fluid communication with the aerosol flow channel and having a gas inlet port and a gas outlet port, and defining a ventilation gas flow path from the gas inlet port to and through the gas outlet port, wherein the ventilation gas flow path is at least partially offset from the aerosol flow path and at least partially encircles the aerosol flow path. Systems and methods for delivering an aerosolized active agent to a patient with concomitant positive pressure ventilation incorporate the adaptor.
Abstract:
A method is provided for the ranking of health care providers, the method comprising: identification of a user and logging of the user into a database having user information stored therein; entering of additional user demographic information necessary for a comparison of health care provider services; selecting a desired medical procedure for comparison between providers; presenting to the user of a facility ranking for the desired medical procedure based upon quality and cost; storage of ranking information for future retrieval by the user; and forwarding the ranking information to an insurance carrier to which the user subscribes.
Abstract:
A vacuum cleaner comprising a floor-engaging unit having a suction inlet, an upright body mounted to said floor-engaging unit and including means for creating a suction and means for separating and collecting dirt from an airstream drawn in by said suction, a unit having a handle and a tubular portion extending from said handle, said tubular portion forming a suction inlet and being coupled to said body via a flexible hose, and said tubular portion being attachable to said body with said handle projecting for the user to grasp for manoeuvring the cleaner over the floor, wherein said tubular portion comprises first and second tubes which are telescopically coupled together to enable said tubular portion to be extended when detached from said body.
Abstract:
A personal respiratory protection device that comprises a mask body and an exhalation valve that is secured to the mask body. The mask body includes (i) a flat central panel; (ii) a flat first panel joined to the central panel through a fold-line, seam weld, or bond, the fold-line, seam, weld or bond of the first panel being substantially coextensive with an edge of the central panel; (iii) a flat second panel joined to the central panel through a fold-line, seam, weld or bond, the fold-line, seam, weld or bond of the second panel being substantially coextensive with an edge of the central panel. At least one of the center, first and second panels includes filter media. The device is capable of being folded for storage with the first and second panels in at least partial face-to-face contact with a common surface of the central panel and, during use, is capable of forming, over the nose and mouth of the wearer, a cup-shaped air chamber having a face-contacting periphery.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the combination of riluzole and of gabapentin or one of their pharmaceutically acceptable salts and its use as a medicament which is useful in particular for the prevention and/or treatment of motoneuron diseases.
Abstract:
An anatomically fitted belt is used for carrying one or more waist-mounted respiratory protection components. The belt includes a main belt portion and a belt buckle portion. The main belt portion includes a back section, a left side section, a right side section, a left connective section between the back section and the left side section, and a right connective section between the back section and the right side section. The back section is wider than the other sections of the main belt portion. The main belt portion has a generally conical shape to be secured around a user's pelvic girdle and to align the respiratory component over the lumbar region of the user's spine to distribute a weight of the respiratory component. The belt buckle portion includes a right piece connected to the right side section of the main belt portion and a left piece connected to the left side section of the main belt portion.
Abstract:
The present invention provides, inter alia, methods and pharmaceutical compositions for treating or ameliorating an effect of proximal spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and methods for preventing or slowing motor neuron death in a subject having SMA. The methods include administering to a subject in need thereof a modulator of a gene selected from the group consisting of phosphodiesterase 1c (Pde1c), Calbindin 2 (Calb2), Egl nine homolog 3 (Eg13), Metabotropic glutamate receptor 8 (mGluR8), Syn aptotagmin 1 (Syt1), CUGBP, Elav-like family member 4 (Celf4), and combinations thereof in an amount effective to treat or ameliorate an effect of SMA. Also provided are methods for preventing or slowing motor neuron death.
Abstract:
Provided is a printing device comprising a hot roller having an inside surface and an outside surface. A heating element is present within the hot roller. The inside surface has a first region, wherein the first region is coated with a first type of material. The inside surface has a second region, wherein the second region is coated with the first type of material, and wherein second region is of a different dimension than the first region. The inside surface has a third region, wherein the third region is coated with a second type of material.
