Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to a trailer having a frame suitable for transporting an item, such as an oil drilling pipe. The trailer includes a plurality of stabilizers for supporting the frame over a surface, at least one axle attached to a plurality of wheels. The trailer further includes an axle pin group includes first and second axle pins interconnected to respective hydraulic cylinders. The trailer further includes leaf springs connected to respective sides of the frame and mounted to the axle. Retraction of the axle pins away from the leaf springs enables movement of the frame with respect to the axle due to the weight of the frame, if the stabilizers are retracted. In this configuration, the frame can be raised and lowered with respect to the surface. Methods of use are also disclosed.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to trailers having an extendable boom on which sections of pipe or the like can be supported for transport and lift at a job site, such as an oil rig. The boom has a rearward portion and a forward portion. The forward portion is configured to fold under the rearward portion in a folded arrangement and can pivot away from the rearward portion into an extended, unfolded arrangement. In this way, an effective working length of the boom can be extended/shortened while the boom is in full operation and without having to separately transport and maintain an extension for the boom.

The trailer includes a boom which may be raised from the trailer and support cables used to move the pipe from the trailer to a storage or other location. The boom is raised and lowered by a hydraulic system comprising a travel height truss. The travel height truss may comprise two portions, pivotably connected to each other, one portion pivotably connected to the frame and the other pivotably connected to the boom. The travel height truss provides greater leverage than would otherwise be available for the maximum size and weight of the load available for a given (fixed) maximum length of trailer. In this manner, the boom frame can be raised to greater heights, while maintaining horizontal distance, than otherwise. Methods of use are also disclosed.
