Abstract: A system is provided for operation with a facility providing peritoneal dialysis exchanges for multiple peritoneal dialysis patients. The system can include a peritoneal dialysis solution supply, peritoneal dialysis sets to deliver peritoneal dialysis solution to the peritoneal dialysis patients at the facility, a computer, and a treatment station. The computer can electronically read a prescription for a patient, electronically identify a quantity of the peritoneal dialysis solution from the prescription, and electronically identify a peritoneal dialysis set from the peritoneal dialysis sets for use with the identified quantity of the peritoneal dialysis solution. The treatment station can allow an identified peritoneal dialysis set to be fluidly connected to the peritoneal dialysis solution supply so that the identified quantity of the peritoneal dialysis solution may be metered from the dialysis solution supply to the patient to perform a peritoneal dialysis treatment at the facility and according to the prescription.

Abstract: A method of calculating a volume of a drop pendant using a microprocessor. Included in the method are generating a gravity vector based on a direction of gravity with respect to the drop pendant; establishing a reference frame of the drop pendant for an image processing based on a reference point of the drop pendant and the gravity vector; generating a first reference line associated with the reference frame for representing an actual orientation of the drop pendant; generating a second reference line associated with the reference frame for representing a longitudinal axis of a chamber in which the drop pendant is located; comparing the first and second reference lines with respect to the gravity vector; and calculating the volume of the drop pendant based on the comparison of the first and second reference lines and the gravity vector.

Abstract: The present invention provides a glucose sensor having a glucose receptor containing a binding site of formula (I): wherein X, n, m and R1 are defined herein. Also provided is a glucose sensor molecule for use in such a glucose sensor, the glucose sensor molecule containing the binding site of formula (I). The binding site has been found to have particularly good selectivity for glucose.

Abstract: An infusion map system includes a memory storing at least infusion mapping instructions, and a processor that executes the stored instructions. When the processor executes the infusion mapping instructions, the infusion map system performs a displaying function that displays at least a portion of an electronic medical record associated with a patient and a diagramming function that receives the electronic medical record and generates an infusion map showing all intravenous drugs being administered to the patient. For each of the drugs, the infusion map further illustrates a route of administration for the drug. An order administering function performed by the system allows a user to alter the infusion map, and a record updating function of annotating the electronic medical record to correspond to the altered infusion map.

Abstract: An infusion pump is provided, including a specially programmed microprocessor, a flow sensor for measuring flow from a source of fluid through an output tubing, a pumping section including a plurality of fingers in operational relationship to the output tubing, an outlet valve associated with the output tubing, and a first actuator configured for sequentially displacing the plurality of fingers to displace fluid through the output tubing. An inlet valve is disposed between the pumping section and the source of fluid; and a second actuator is also included. For detection, by the flow sensor, of flow above a predetermined level, the microprocessor is configured for one of: closing the outlet valve independently of the inlet valve using the first actuator; and closing the inlet valve independently of the outlet valve using the second actuator.

Abstract: An airtrap for a medical or physiological fluid in one embodiment includes a conical housing having a radius that increases from its top to its bottom when the housing is positioned for operation; a medical or physiological fluid inlet located at an upper portion of the conical housing; a medical or physiological fluid outlet located at a lower portion of the conical housing, the inlet and the outlet positioned and arranged so that medical or physiological fluid spirals in an increasing arc around an inside of the conical housing downwardly from the inlet to the outlet; and a gas collection area located at an upper portion of the conical housing. In another embodiment, the airtrap is shaped like a seahorse having a head section and a tail section. Any of the airtraps herein may be used for example in blood sets, peritoneal dialysis cassette tubing, and drug delivery sets.

Abstract: A system and method is provided to allow multiple patients to receive peritoneal dialysis treatment at a walk-in facility without having to keep fresh dialysis solution on hand themselves. The walk-in facility is enabled to receive a peritoneal dialysis prescription from a patient, verify the prescription, determine the appropriate treatment for the patient, provide the patient with the appropriate dialysis solution in the appropriate amount, and enable the patient to undergo a dialysis treatment at the facility. The walk-in facility can also be enabled to monitor the patient's home dialysis treatment and to adjust the patient's treatment at the facility accordingly. The facility can be enabled to produce dialysis solution on demand by manufacturing the solution from solution components according to a patient's prescription. Moreover, the facility can use a sorbent system to regenerate effluent dialysis solution into fresh dialysis solution.
