    摘要: A lock for sliding doors has a bolt carried by a plunger on one door and has a cross head movable into a strike on the passing door. The bolt is rotatable by a key operated core in the plunger, between two orientations. In unlocked, key-retaining orientation, the bolt is movable axially to carry its cross head from a retracted position behind the faceplate of its mounting to a projected position behind a strike on the opposite door, the face plate and strike having shaped openings to pass the cross head in that orientation. In locked, key-releasing orientation, the cross head is out of registry with the shaped openings and when engaged in the strike, prevents withdrawal of the bolt by forced separation of the doors. A spline groove and flatted sides on the bolt interengage with a shaped opening in the face plate to prevent bolt rotation at intermediate axial positions, and prevent bolt movement from end positions except after deliberate key rotation, which increases security and avoids inadvertent movement or disposition of the bolt to mar the passing door.

    摘要: An attack-resistant padlock has a shackle of maraged steel, deadlocked in locked position by a pair of oppositely-moving bolts positively driven by a rotary throw member having specially-shaped driving lugs, which have long arcuate external faces tangent to transverse faces on the bolts to positively deadlock the bolts in locking position. The throw member is mounted in a retaining plate secured by engagement in a notch in the casing and by a shackle retaining plug which may be pinned in place, and is further supported by a filler block which reinforces the throw member legs and is held in place by the keyremovable lock core. The lock core is desirably secured not only by its normal key-actuated lug, but additionally by a keeper plate mounted in the bottom of a downward extension of the shackle-toe receiving bore. The invention is applicable both to shrouded and unshrounded padlocks.

    摘要: A key-removable, pin tumbler lock core comprises a core body having a bore with a sleeve and a key plug rotatable therein and defining a first or operating shear line at the plug-sleeve interface, and a second or control shear line at the sleevehousing interface. Pin bores in the body, sleeve, and plug receive columns of pin segments which cross both shear lines and have key-absent positions which block rotation at both shear lines. When the pin columns are raised by a suitable key, shear faces therein come into alignment with a shear line and thereby permit rotation of the key plug or sleeve. Standard construction of such lock cores uses pin segment lengths and key-cut positions founded on base-10 increments, i.e. a division by 10, of the distance between the two shear lines, and uses standard dimensions and tolerances corresponding thereto. Such base-10 increment pin division and key cuts limit the number of useable lock combinations. The present invention retains the standard dimensions and tolerances of the lock core structure, but enlarges manyfold the number of available lock combinations by using base-7 increments, i.e. a division by 7, of the shear line separation distance for segmenting the pins and locating the key cuts. The base-7 increment pin segments and keys are fully compatible with existing standard dimensions and manufacturing tolerances and provide full interchangeability between old and new lock cores.

    摘要: A padlock shackle or other locking bar hard enough to resist cutting with a hack saw and strong enough to resist cutting with a bolt cutter is made of a high carbon steel composition hardened substantially throughout its section to a hardness at least equal to that of hack saw hardness (Rockwell C-53) and is given high resistance to shatter under impact or stress, especially when chilled, by subjecting the steel stock to decarburizing conditions which substantially reduce the carbon content at the surface of the shackle. This produces on the shackle, after final hardening heat treatment, a surface layer having substantially reduced hardness, e.g. Rockwell C-45-47, and substantially increased ductility at and near the surface and progressively increasing hardness inward to the full hardness and strength of the steel composition at a depth of not more than 0.035 inch. The decarburized and more ductile surface greatly increases resistance of the shackle to shattering under impact and stress, while leaving the core with full strength and resistance to cutting.

    摘要: A latch bolt mechanism for use with a cylindrical lock set has a main latch bolt and an auxiliary bolt to control deadlocking of the main bolt, all mounted in a tubular housing. The main bolt has a tubular stem telescopically received over a tailpiece in the form of a round rod with a retraction head at the rear. The tailpiece is slidable in the stem through lost motion which is limited by engagement between a stop ring on the stem and a timing groove in the tailpiece, and the tailpiece is biased to forward position by a spring acting between a cap at the front end of the tailpiece and a reaction washer pressed into the bolt stem. A deadlocking dog is pivoted on a rear support with its forward end positioned to block rearward movement of the bolt stem. The tailpiece also has a cam groove to receive the dogging end of the dog, and the cam of such groove releases the deadlocking dog when the tailpiece is first retracted through its limited lost motion in the stem and thereafter retracts the latch bolt. The bolts are urged forward by springs which seat on a foot lever fulcrumed against the end closure of the tubular housing and engaged at its end with a lug on the deadlocking dog to bias that dog toward its deadlocking position. The auxiliary bolt carries a dog release finger which normally holds the deadlocking dog in release position, but which, when the auxiliary bolt is retracted relative to the bolt, lets the locking dog move to bolt-blocking position. The tailpiece spring is weaker than the bolt spring so that when the bolt is deadlocked retraction of the tailpiece first moves it through its lost motion to where its cam will release the locking dog, and then moves it to retract the latch bolt.
