Abstract:
A conveyor drive shaft for use in agricultural combines including an integral torque limiting device is disclosed herein. More particularly, a co-axial integrated torque limiter, such as an radial pin clutch, is provided in such a conveyor drive shaft to minimize additional space claim required to protect the conveyor drive shaft, and attached components from damage in the event of an unexpected jam or other stoppage. A conveyor system employing such an integrated conveyor drive shaft and a combine employing such a conveyor system are also disclosed.
Abstract:
An agricultural combine having an adjustable spreader assembly is provided that includes a spreader with one or a pair of regulators. The spreader includes a discharge opening about its lateral side. The regulator is pivotably connected to the lateral side of the spreader such that the regulator is in fluid communication with the discharge opening. The regulator can be configured to move from a retracted position to an extended position or to vary the direction of discharge of crop residue. The spreader can be a vertical spreader, a horizontal spreader, or a spread board.
Abstract:
Apparatus and a method for automatically recognizing a header connected to a harvesting machine and setting operating and/or adjustment parameters of a spreader of the machine for use with the header. The apparatus includes a memory containing information representative of predetermined spreader settings for at least one header connectable to the harvesting machine, such as a grain header and a corn or maize header. A detector element is operable for automatically identifying a header connected to the machine and outputting a signal or information representative thereof, to a controller automatically operable for using that information for retrieving the stored information representative of the predetermined spreader settings for that header. Input commands and/or information, for instance, relating to crop type, and/or crop and environmental conditions, can also be inputted using either an onboard or remote input device. The controller then responsively controls a crop residue spreader connected to the machine as a function of the retrieved information and any inputted commands or information, if within predetermined permissible ranges.
Abstract:
A flow distributor apparatus for a vertical spreader operable for discharging a flow of straw or other crop residue in a sideward direction over a field, the flow distributor apparatus including a flow guide element, an adjusting mechanism, and a coupling connector connecting the flow guide element to the adjusting mechanism for controllable repositioning of the flow guide element relative to the spreader paddles. The flow guide element is disposed generally adjacent to the back plate of the spreader and intermediate the spreader paddles with an apex portion, laterally extending arm portions, and longitudinally extending crop residue flow surfaces, at least portions of which crop residue flow surfaces extend beneath the spreader paddles. The adjusting mechanism is operable to effect at least either vertical, horizontal, or rotational movement of the flow guide element relative to the spreader paddles to adjustably vary the clearances between the outer swept diameters of the spreader paddles and the crop residue flow surfaces to control the sidewardly outwardly discharge of crop residue from the spreader.
Abstract:
A pin assembly for a chain of a material moving system includes a pin having a first end and a second end, the first end having a threaded portion extending to a guide region having a reduced cross-section compared to the threaded portion, the threaded portion being at least partially modified during fabrication of the pin, the guide region extending to a transition region of increasing cross-section with respect to the guide region from the first end toward the second end, the transition region terminating at a shoulder. A fastener is configured to engage the threaded portion during construction of the chain. During construction of the chain, the pin and the fastener form a compression fit therebetween in response to a predetermined torque applied to the fastener, damaging at least a segment of the fastener, substantially limiting reuse of the fastener after the fastener has been disassembled from the pin.
Abstract:
An adjustable flow distributor for a spreader of an agricultural combine operable for discharging a flow of straw and other crop residue in a sideward direction for deposition over a field, the flow distributor including an edge portion oriented at an oblique angle to a reference such as a back plate of the spreader, defining an oblique shaped space therebetween, the edge portion being pivotally adjustable in the fore and aft direction for controlling the portions of the flow of crop residue deposited beneath the spreader and discharged sidewardly therefrom, respectively, for instance, so as to better and more evenly distribute the crop residue over a swath of an agricultural field from which the crop was harvested, particularly a region of the swath in proximity to the spreader and/or chopper.
Abstract:
A novel rear deck service ladder and handle assembly for combine harvesters is disclosed having integral latching and height adjustment features.

Abstract:
A combine feeding system includes a lower conveyor roller configured to rotate around a lower conveyor roller axis, an upper conveyor roller configured to rotate around an upper conveyor roller axis and a drive shaft configured to rotate around a drive shaft axis. The lower conveyor roller axis, upper conveyor roller axis and drive shaft axis are substantially perpendicular to first and second housing walls. The feeding system also includes at least one chain configured to move over the drive shaft, the lower conveyor roller and the upper conveyor roller. The feeding system further includes at least one lower support arm coupled to the drive shaft and the lower conveyor roller and configured to pivot about the drive shaft axis. At least one force mechanism is configured to apply a force to the at least one chain in at least one of a first direction and a second direction.
