Methods and apparatus for conveying a delivery schedule to mobile terminals. In an aspect, a method is provided that includes receiving a contact window that describes a time interval when a content clip will be available on a distribution network, determining one or more clips of interest, determining that the content clip matches at least one of the one or more clips of interest, and scheduling a receive time to receive the content clip within the time interval. An apparatus is provided that includes scheduling logic configured to determine that a content clip matches one or more clips of interest and to schedule a receive time to receive the content clip within a contact window.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for creation and transport of multimedia content flows to a distribution network. The system includes a method for transporting a content flow to an access network for distribution to devices coupled to the access network. The method includes transmitting a request message to add the content flow to the access network, wherein the request message comprises one or more flow parameters associated with the content flow. The method also includes receiving a response message indicating that the content flow associated with the one or more flow parameters will be added to the access network, and delivering the content flow to the access network.

A method and apparatus for negotiating capability information for a broadcast service in a communication system. In one embodiment, the generic capabilities are pre-configured in BSC, which provides the generic capability information to MS and to PDSN based on a listing of available BC services and the corresponding capabilities. Another embodiment pre-configures PDSN with the generic capability information. According to still another embodiment, PDSN is pre-configured with the generic capability information, wherein the MS queries the PDSN directly for generic capability information via a PPP connection. In yet another embodiment, the MS queries the PCF, which in turn queries all of the PDSN in the system. The PDSN responsible for the BC responds to the query. Where multiple PDSNs may support the BC, the first to respond using multicast addressing obviates the need for the others to respond.

The method includes maintaining an event description dictionary comprising one or more event descriptors, and associating content with a selected event descriptor. The method also includes compressing the selected event descriptor to generate a compressed event descriptor, and transmitting the compressed event descriptor on a notification channel.

A method for channel switching includes bundling entitlement control messages (ECMs) to generate bundled ECMs that comprise decryption keys associated with a first content channel and one or more additional content channels, respectively, and transmitting the bundled ECMs with the first content channel. An apparatus for channel switching includes key acquisition logic configured to receive bundled ECMs that comprise decryption keys associated with a first content channel and one or more additional content channels, respectively, processing logic configured to receive a request to render a second content channel that is part of the one or more additional content channels, and decryption logic configured to utilize a selected decryption key obtained from the bundled ECMs to decrypt the second content channel.

In an aspect, a method includes identifying a multiplex set that comprises one or more content flows, wherein the multiplex set is one of a vertical multiplex (VM) set and a unified multiplex (UM) set, generating an overhead message that associates one or more RF carrier frequencies with the one or more content flows, and transmitting the overhead message over the multi-frequency network.
