A system and method for configuring graphics processing communication among a graphics device, a chipset (a host bridge), and a data processor is shown and described. A graphics driver is used to configure graphics communication within an information handling system using existing information stored in system memory or installing and running a configuration routine to determine a method of graphics communication. A configuration routine applies tests to determine a mode of data transfer between the system and the graphics device. Test results associated with the configuration routine are stored and can be loaded upon subsequent system startups to configure communications between the system and the graphics device. A reliable mode for communicating between the graphics device and the information handling system is established to allow the graphics device to be used without requiring excessive interaction by a user.

Systems and methods are provided for supporting an external display on a portable device. A system on a chip (SOC) of the portable device provides a first set of graphics data to a graphics controller. The embedded graphics controller renders the first set of graphics data for output using an LCD screen integrated with the portable device. The SOC renders a second set of graphics data and provides rendered graphics data to an external display interface. The external display interface formats the rendered graphics data for output on an external, remote display.

A delay locked loop (DLL) circuit having gain control is presented. The DLL circuit includes a bias generator responsive based on an error signal to produce first and second bias voltages to control a plurality of differential delay elements. The bias generator includes a bias current generator having a fixed voltage-controlled current source and a dynamic voltage-controlled current source to generate a bias current, and a bias voltage generator for receiving the bias current and generating first and second bias voltages. The bias generator can generate multiple current levels in different modes of operation. Each of the current levels of the bias generator allows a small range of currents and therefore small values of gain factors (KVCDL). Low KVCDL values leads to lower jitter and better control over feedback stability, resulting in an increase in the range of operational frequencies.

An interlink module is coupled to receive processed data corresponding to the frames from each of the processors. The interlink module divides a first frame into multiple frame portions by dividing pixels of the first frame using at least one balance point. The interlink module dynamically determines a position for the balance point that minimizes differences between the workload of the processors during processing of commands and/or data of one or more subsequent frames.

A system and methods are provided for processing graphics to be displayed in a portable device. A current mode of operation of the portable device is identified. In a normal mode of operation, image data associated with the portable device is rendered by a graphics system of the portable device and stored in memory external to the graphics system prior to display. When a screen refresh mode of operation is identified, image data rendered by the graphics system is compressed and stored in memory integrated internal to the graphics system. The present disclosure has the advantage of allowing the memory external to the graphics system to be disabled during the screen refresh mode of operation, reducing power consumed by the portable device.
