    摘要: Membranes which are used for the separation of gases comprise cellulose acetate membranes which have been crosslinked with an organic titanate. The membranes are prepared by solvent exchanging a cellulose acetate membrane through a series of baths of decreasing polarity followed by treating the membrane with a crosslinking agent comprising an organic titanate in an organic solvent solution which possesses a relatively low polarity. The resulting membranes will retain the original excellent separation characteristics while concomitantly possessing greater temperature and pressure stability and flux characteristics.

    摘要: Compositions comprising polyalkylene terephthalate, polyethylene and a compatibilizer copolymer of a C.sub.2 -C.sub.10 alpha-olefin and a glycidyl or isocyanate group-containing functional compound, wherein the functional compound comprises about 0.4 to about 50 weight percent of the compatibilizer copolymer, provide improved impact properties and heat resistance. The compositions feature improved compatibility of polyalkylene terephthalate and polyethylene, and are useful in forming a wide variety of articles therefrom.

    摘要: Thin film composite ultrafiltration membrane which possesses desirable properties or characteristics may be prepared by casting a solution of a polyelectrolyte complex on a microporous support to form a thin film of the polyelectrolyte complex on the surface of the supports. The thickness of the polyelectrolyte complex membrane will range from about 600 to about 3,000 .ANG.. This membrane may then be used for the separation of low molecular weight solutes such as, for example, the separation of glucose from sucrose and higher molecular weight sugars.

    摘要: Semipermeable membranes comprising polyesters which are resistant to chlorine are prepared by casting on a porous support backing material either a solution comprising a blend of a polymeric hydroxyalkyl acrylate and a polymeric monocarboxylic acid, or a polymeric polycarboxylic acid, or a solution containing a prepolymer which has been formed by the reaction of a polymeric hydroxyalkyl acrylate with an acryloyl halide or an anhydride of a dicarboxylic acid. The porous support backing material is contacted with the solution at contacting conditions, following which the excess solution is removed and the solution-coated porous support backing material is then cured at curing conditions. This membrane will possess excellent characteristics of salt rejection and flux as well as being resistant to the action of chlorine which is present in water which is subjected to a desalination process.
