摘要: Dispensing systems for a ventilator circuit having a ventilator flow circuit with a normal inhalation flow path with a heat and moisture exchanger (HME), a flow sensor in communication with the ventilator circuit, an automated drug dispensing system with an actuator and a pressurized canister residing upstream of the HME, a bypass inhalation flow path residing downstream of the pressurized canister, and at least one electromechanical valve residing in the inhalation flow path to selectively open the valve which can be normally closed to define a closed bypass path. At least one controller opens the at least one electromechanical valve to open the bypass inhalation flow path and close the normal inhalation flow path through the HME only when the flow sensor indicates air flow is in an inhalation direction. Once the valve is open, the actuator dispenses medication through the bypass inhalation flow path to the patient.

摘要: Dispensing systems for a ventilator circuit having a ventilator flow circuit with a normal inhalation flow path with a heat and moisture exchanger (HME), a flow sensor in communication with the ventilator circuit, an automated drug dispensing system with an actuator and a pressurized canister residing upstream of the HME, a bypass inhalation flow path residing downstream of the pressurized canister, and at least one electromechanical valve residing in the inhalation flow path to selectively open the valve which can be normally closed to define a closed bypass path. At least one controller opens the at least one electromechanical valve to open the bypass inhalation flow path and close the normal inhalation flow path through the HME only when the flow sensor indicates air flow is in an inhalation direction. Once the valve is open, the actuator dispenses medication through the bypass inhalation flow path to the patient.

Medication in the form of respirable particles is transported through ventilator circuitry by a delivery unit. Multiple medications may be delivered into the gas flow of the ventilator, with each medication delivered in a defined dose for a frequency and interval as specified by an operator. The particles mixed into the gas flow of the ventilator are inhaled and ingested by the patent's lungs.

摘要: A system for delivering drug is provided. The system includes an adapter and a device. The adapter is configured to establish fluid communication with a gas conduit of a ventilator circuit. The device includes an actuation member and an actuator. The actuation member is configured to pivot. A canister containing drug is disposed between the adapter and the actuation member. The actuator is engaged to the actuation member such that the actuator selectively causes pivotal movement of the actuation member, causing the actuation member to apply pressure over the canister, thereby causing the canister to deliver drug into the adapter.

摘要: A system for providing automated delivery of medication to a ventilator circuit that extends between a mechanical ventilator and a patient includes a connector that resides in-line with a portion of the ventilator circuit, a portable medication delivery unit attached to the connector, and a control device in communication with the portable delivery unit. The portable delivery unit includes a housing releasably holding at least one metered dose inhaler canister containing medication and an actuator held by the housing and in communication with the canister to direct the canister to release medication to the ventilator circuit for the patient. The control device is configured to control an amount and/or frequency of medication delivery from the canister to the ventilator circuit for a respective patient and to direct the actuator to actuate to deliver the medication from the canister to the ventilator circuit at a defined amount and/or frequency.

摘要: A portable unit for providing automated delivery of medication to a ventilator circuit that runs between a mechanical ventilator and a patient is provided. The portable unit includes: a housing configured to releasably hold an inhaler containing the medication, wherein the inhaler is in fluid communication with the ventilator circuit; an actuator at least partially in the housing and in communication with the inhaler to deliver medication from the inhaler to the ventilator circuit for a respective patient; a controller programmed to control an amount and/or frequency of medication delivery from the inhaler to the ventilator circuit for a respective patient, the controller configured to actuate the actuator to deliver the medication from the inhaler to the ventilator circuit at the programmed amount and/or frequency; and a display for displaying the amount and/or frequency of medication delivery and an amount of medication remaining in the inhaler, wherein the display is dynamically updated by the controller. Diagnostic devices are also disclosed that: 1) administer an agent to gas to be inhaled; 2) detect/measure exhaled gas; and/or 3) determine a state or condition of a patient based on the detected/measured exhaled gas.
