Abstract: Methods for efficient doping of wide-bandgap (WBG) and ultrawide-bandgap (UWBG) semiconductors by implantation, and WBG and UWBG semiconductors made using the disclosed methods. A p-type semiconductor region is formed by implanting specified acceptor and donor co-dopant atoms in a predetermined ratio, e.g., two acceptors to one donor (ADA), into the semiconductor lattice. An n-type type semiconductor region is by implanting specified donor and acceptor co-dopant atoms in a predetermined ratio, e.g., two donors to one acceptor (DAD), into the semiconductor lattice. Compensator atoms are also implanted into the lattice to complete formula units in the crystal lattice structure and preserve the stoichiometry of the semiconductor material. The doped material is then annealed to activate the dopants and repair any damage to the lattice that might have occurred during implantation.

Abstract: Disclosed is a tunable microwave-initiated antenna igniter. The device includes a pair of tunable microstrip antennas on a substrate configured to receive an electromagnetic radiation frequency that provides ignition energy; and a conductive material spanning a dielectric gap between the pair of tunable microstrip antennas. The conductive material spanning the dielectric gap can include a dielectric epoxy or a bridgewire. The microstrip antennas are tunable for frequency and bandwidth by varying dipole length and/or width. Tuning causes the microstrip antennas to reject accidental ignition from an off frequency high power microwave field. The tunability, bandwidth selectivity, and low energy requirements allow for use of the tunable microwave-initiated antenna igniters in a number of new and challenging ignition applications.

Abstract: A non-invasive tension measuring system is provided with at least one pair of sensors positioned longitudinally and at a predetermined distance from each other along a linear system. At least one operationally connected processor executes instructions to detect, using the sensors, a transverse wave propagating along the linear system in order to determine a time delay of the transverse wave, to determine a propagation speed of the transverse wave based on the time delay, and to determine a tension of the unit length of the linear system based at least in part on the propagation speed and a mass per the unit length of the linear system.

Abstract: Methods of collecting liquid samples are disclosed. According to some embodiments, a portion of a sample collection film is unrolled from a first reel to a position adjacent a sample dispenser. A liquid sample is dispensed from the sample dispenser onto the portion of the sample collection film. After dispensing the liquid sample onto the portion of the sample collection film, the portion of the sample collection film is rolled onto a second reel. Related sample collection devices, films, and reels are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method of making chalcogenide based polymeric materials and converting those materials into optical fiber preforms and polymeric optical fibers. The preforms and fibers comprise chalcogenide elements and crosslinking moieties. These fibers can be used as optical waveguides at infrared wavelengths where other polymer fibers do not operate. The optical waveguides are ideally suitable for applications requiring the transmission of low-power infrared light, but may also be useful for transmitting high-power light at visible or infrared wavelengths.

Abstract: Provided is an apparatus and method for radar calibration that utilizes external shielding structures to be constructed around the body frame of a system to manage external signature presence and block unwanted signal emissions and intrusions. The inventive structures can adapt to desired user requirements or to environmental change as needed. The variable shielding with isolating connectors to the body frame of the system allows for aerodynamic needs to be sustained due to the mesh design while also protecting against electromagnetic spectrum interference and electro-optical short wave and long wave infrared signature emissions. The shielding can also be formed to emit a known or desired radio frequency response based on geometric shapes in order to influence radar cross-section readings. Communication with external environment is completed through the use of the shielding as a series of antennas.

Abstract: Provided is a cadmium selenide-indium arsenide heterojunction bipolar transistor. The device includes a first layer comprising a collector of the transistor made of n-type cadmium selenide, a base layer containing indium arsenide, and an emitter layer that reverts to cadmium selenide. The inventive device includes a large neutron cross section via the cadmium selenide layer. The cadmium selenide layer holds a high reaction rate with neutrons thus altering the electrical signal of the HBT in a neutron environment. The inventive HBT also yields higher gains than current homojunction bipolar transistors, such as those utilizing pure indium arsenide or silicon.

Abstract: A method and system for detecting computer network data leaks over optical channels, for example using a mobile phone or other handheld device to rapidly scan a room with many light sources to identify the hidden transmission of data via optical steganography. The method of identification leverages spectral divergence created by the entropy produced by steganographically embedding data in the optical channel. The method and system proceed through multiple steps that can be computed in near real-time to eliminate background spectrum effects and isolate likely sources of information. The user or automated detection system captures a short video, and the video frames are then subdivided into smaller blocks effectively producing many adjacent videos of smaller pixel area.
