Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a modular system for deep brain stimulation (DBS) and electrocorticography (ECoG). The system may have an implantable neuromodulator for generating electrical stimulation signals adapted to be applied to a desired region of a brain via an attached electrode array. An aggregator module may be used for collecting and aggregating electrical signals and transmitting the electrical signals to the neuromodulator. A control module may be used which is in communication with the aggregator module for controlling generation of the electrical signals and transmitting the electrical signals to the aggregator.

Abstract: Durability of an energy conversion and storage system is increased by rebalancing the electrolyte composition used in the system. The storage system includes a main device, a sub device, an electrolyte, and a device for directing the electrolyte from the main device to the sub device. The system has re-balancing capacity for the electrolyte properties of the electrolyte in the sub device. The as re-balancing capacity includes rebalancing pH of the electrolyte and/or rebalancing conductivity of the electrolyte and/or rebalancing solubility of the electrolyte.

Abstract: An embodiment includes a wound dressing comprising: a shape memory polymer (SMP) foam, including open cells, having first and second states; and a hydrogel (HG) included within the cells; wherein (a) in a first position a composite, including the SMP foam and the HG, is configured to be located proximate a hemorrhagic tissue with the SMP foam in the first state; (b) in a second position the composite is configured to be expanded to the second state against the hemorrhagic tissue when the SMP foam is plasticized at 37° C. depressing a glass transition temperature (Tg) of the SMP foam to below 25° C. Other embodiments are described herein.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method for controlling thermal radiation from a component. The method involves arranging a thermally conductive base layer in contact with the component, the base layer including a thermally emissive surface. A plurality of independently controlled shutter elements are movable about at least two orthogonal axes, and between closed and open positions, to change a dimension of a gap separating edges of adjacent ones of the shutter elements. The movements of the shutter elements are controlled about the two orthogonal axes to control the dimensions of the gaps to control thermal radiation emitted through the gaps.

Abstract: Devices, methods and techniques are disclosed to interrupt a fault current in a high-voltage direct-current circuit. In one example aspect, a device includes a mechanical switch including a pair of contacts configured to be positioned apart upon activation of the circuit breaker, and a photoconductive component connected in parallel with the mechanical switch. The photoconductive component is configured to establish a current upon activation of the circuit breaker. The photoconductive component comprises a crystalline material positioned to receive a pulsed light signal from a laser light source, and a pair of electrodes coupled to the crystalline material and configured to allow an electric field to be established across the crystalline material to generate the current.
