Abstract: An off-road vehicle includes an intake box, an introduction duct, and an intake duct. The intake box includes an internal space, an opening, and a bottom wall. The opening is provided with a filter, and the internal space is open to an outside of the off-road vehicle through the opening. The bottom wall defines a lower boundary of a part of the internal space. Through the introduction duct, the internal space of the intake box communicates with an outside of the intake box. The introduction duct protrudes upward and toward the internal space from the bottom wall of the intake box. The introduction duct includes an inlet provided at a position higher than the bottom wall in the internal space of the intake box. The intake duct is provided at the outside of the intake box and connected to the introduction duct.

Abstract: A method of operating a cleaning process on a filter in a vehicle air intake includes passing air through the filter from an upstream side to a downstream side, and providing an exhaust duct having an inlet end adjacent the upstream side of the filter and an outlet end adjacent a cooling fan or other air-extraction device of the vehicle arranged to draw air through the exhaust duct from the inlet end to the outlet end. In a periodic cleaning subroutine, the rotational speed of the fan is increased from a first speed to a second speed, while a pulse of pressurized fluid is applied to a downstream side of the filter. The exhaust duct carries away material dislodged from the upstream side of the filter by the applied pulse, and the rotational speed of the fan is reduced to its original level.

Abstract: An engine air filter for heavy dust conditions such as used in heavy military and off-road vehicles, including a scavenging system, and a method of operation thereof. The air filter includes: a housing, a precleaner, a permeable filter, and a scavenger system. The scavenger system disposes of particles collected at the precleaner and on the upstream surface of the permeable filter. The scavenger system includes: an air suction source and a three way valve. The three way valve is airflow coupled to the precleaner, to the permeable filter and to the air suction source. The three way valve enables scavenging of the precleaner and the permeable filter alternately. Optionally, the air filter may further includes a pulse jet back-flow flush system.

Abstract: A system and method of operating an air cleaner assembly including a selective scavenging apparatus that may be configured to actuate in response to a pulse cleaning operation. The air cleaner assembly may include an air cleaner housing, filter media positioned within an interior space of the air cleaner housing, a pulse cleaning apparatus extending into the interior space, and the selective scavenging apparatus in fluid communication with an egress aperture of the air cleaner housing. The selective scavenging apparatus may be configured to move fluid and sediment out of the air cleaner housing during a scavenging time period and the pulse cleaning apparatus may be configured to direct a pulse of gas into the clean air space during a cleaning operation. The scavenging time period may start based on the beginning of the cleaning operation and may end based on the completion of the cleaning operation.
