A faceplate of a flat panel display has spacer-insert grooves. One end-side portions of spacers are fixed in the spacer-insert are formed on the substrate of the faceplate in a predetermined pattern. The faceplate with spacer-insert grooves enhances structural support and alignment of the spacers.

A method for fabricating a field emission device which can display a color image. Anodes to be doped with a color fluorescent film of the same color are connected to each other so that the color fluorescent film can be coated on the anodes of a front surface substrate using an electrophoretic method. An insulating layer is formed between anodes which cross each other to prevent the anodes from contacting each other. It is possible to obtain a cheap and clean fluorescent film by sequentially forming the fluorescent films of the respective colors by the electrophoretic method. The field emission device can be easily packaged since the anodes of the front surface substrate on which the fluorescent film is formed can easily contact the external terminals of the rear surface substrate.

A method for molding and aligning microstructures on a patterned substrate using a microstructured mold. A slurry containing a mixture of a ceramic powder and a curable fugitive binder is placed between the microstructure of a stretchable mold and a patterned substrate. The mold can be stretched to align the microstructure of the mold with a predetermined portion of the patterned substrate. The slurry is hardened between the mold and the substrate. The mold is then removed to leave microstructures adhered to the substrate and aligned with the pattern of the substrate. The microstructures can be thermally heated to remove the binder and optimally fired to sinter the ceramic powder.

Walls for a flat panel display and a method for forming walls for a flat panel display that have improved thermal conductivity and decreased thermal coefficient of resistivity. In one embodiment, walls are fabricated using alumina, molybdenum, and titania. These oxide materials (alumina and titania) are mixed with the a metal oxide and cast so as to form thin sheets of material that are then heated. The heating process reduces the metal oxides to their metallic state. The resulting thin sheets of material are then cut to form walls. This produces walls having a higher thermal conductivity than prior art walls. In addition, the thermal coefficient of resistivity of the resulting material is significantly lower than that of prior art materials used for making walls. A flat panel display having the walls of the present invention does not exhibit non-illuminated regions of the visible display due to wall-related thermal effects.
