An electronic musical instrument capable of transposition has a high frequency oscillator provided on its output side with an octave frequency divider comprising 12 counter circuits to generate 12 tone signals based on a twelve tempered scale. These tone signals are respectively frequency-divided by respective pluralities of counter circuits to obtain a plurality of octave tone signals. An oscillator for transposition comprising a plurality of counter circuits is provided and the output terminals of these counter circuits are selectively connected to an input terminal of the octave frequency divider such that the oscillation frequency generated from the high frequency oscillator is added to the oscillation frequency generated from the transposition oscillation to produce an input frequency for the octave frequency divider.

Tone generator system including an oscillator comprising a capacitor and unijunction transistor, with pedals applying potentials representing different notes to a constant current source for controlling the same to charge the oscillator capacitor at different rates for producing the frequencies of different notes. A second control of frequency is provided by changing the potential applied to the gate of the unijunction transistor. The gate potential can be reduced to change the oscillator from the frequency of the root note of a chord to that of the 5th note of the chord, for playing a bass rhythm. The oscillator frequency may be in the frequency range of 8 foot tones, and the sawtooth wave may be directly keyed for providing string bass sounds. A frequency divider triggered by the oscillator produces a square wave at one half the frequency, which is summed with the sawtooth wave to provide a sawtooth wave at one half the frequency, or in the 16 foot tone octave. This may be keyed and filtered for providing a 16 foot diapason tone. The square wave may also be keyed and filtered to provide a 16 foot bourdon tone.

An electronic musical synthesizer is provided with a radio frequency master oscillator which operates through a plurality of parallel divider paths of different dividing ratios to produce oscillations corresponding to the 12 musical notes of one octave. The divider circuits further operate through a divide by 2 circuit to produce a second octave plus one of musical tone frequencies, thus providing two octaves plus one of musical tones. The tones are played monophonically from a 25 note keyboard through a pair of priority latching networks. Further divider chains are provided which produce available notes in musical third and musical fifth relationship to the original notes, as well as notes in octave relation thereto. Various manually operable controls are manipulable by the musician to simulate known musical effect, and also to vary attack and decay, to vary the onset of a tone as to pitch, and to provide various modulations, thereby producing novel musical effects.

In an electronic musical instrument, the frequency dividers for the tone generators consist of integrated circuit units connected in cascade. Each unit includes a plurality of independent flipflops in a number representing a divisor (six, four, three or two) of twelve, the corresponding number of input terminals aligned on one side of the unit and the corresponding number of output terminals aligned on the opposite side thereof. The units are connected in cascade one after another with every flip-flop in one unit dealing with different tone name signal in an octave and the corresponding flip-flops in separate units constituting a divider chain for the same-named tones. Inter-unit wirings become very simple.

For use in electronic organs and the like, an electronic circuit for generating 12 signals, the frequencies of which correspond to the notes of the musical scale, comprises a single, variable frequency oscillator which produces pulses at a high repetition rate. A counting network, driven by the oscillator pulses, produces 12 pulse trains, the frequencies of which are related to each other by 12 2. The 12 pulse trains are filtered directly to produce musical notes, and are further reduced in frequency, and then filtered to produce lower octaves.

In the present invention, a click sound corresponding to key depression speed is generated, and the production timings of fundamental and harmonic components respectively corresponding to each footage are changed to vary from one another in accordance with a wait time, whereby the fundamental and the harmonic components to be synthesized by additive synthesis are changed to differ from one another. Next, a click sound corresponding to key release speed is generated, and the stop timings of the fundamental and harmonic components are changed to vary from one another in accordance with a wait time, whereby the fundamental and the harmonic components to be muted are changed to differ from one another. Accordingly, by the click sound being mixed with the drawbar sound having these slight tone changes, a unique drawbar sound such as that generated by the sound producing mechanism of an actual drawbar organ is generated.
