摘要:
A percussion detecting apparatus and an electronic percussion instrument, which are capable of not only providing excellent percussion feeling, but also visually indicating a percussion pattern of a beat applied to a percussion surface, so as to serve for percussion practice as well as to increase interest in the percussion practice. A head of the percussion detecting apparatus is formed of an air-permeable material and has a light transmitting property. The head includes a percussion surface. A drum shell supports the head. A head sensor detects a beat applied to the percussion surface of the head and outputs a beat signal indicative of the sensed beat. A light radiating part is disposed on an opposite side from the percussion surface of the head so as to perform visual indication corresponding to a percussion pattern of the beat applied to the percussion surface, at least through the percussion surface, based on the beat signal output from the head sensor.

A rhythm pattern is provided to be subjected to forward syncopation processing. The time position of an un-syncopated note in the rhythm pattern is shifted forward to render advanced beating of the note to make a forward-syncopated rhythm pattern. The notes in the modified rhythm pattern are given respective note pitches to establish a melody, wherein the skeleton notes in the rhythm pattern are given skeleton pitches, and the non-skeleton notes in the rhythm pattern are given non-skeleton pitches. The advanced beating of a note makes a skeleton note which plays an important role in syncopation.

There is provided an improved system and method of determining the tempo of a digitized musical work that, optionally, allows a user to participate in the BPM determination. A first preferred aspect includes determination of estimates of the BPM of a musical work by utilizing at least two different algorithms, thereby producing a plurality of separate BPM candidates. As a further preferred aspect, the method utilizes, as an optional step, input from the user to assist in selecting the nullbestnull BPM from among the plurality of BPMs determined previously. Preferably, the user is given the option of nulltapping alongnull with the music by pressing the mouse or a key on the computer in time to the music as it is played. The program analyzes the first few taps and, from that input, selects from the BPMs the one that is most consistent with the user's input.

A method for automatically creating dance patterns using an audio signal of music, comprising: extracting power feature of an audio signal of each processing window by covering the audio signal with the processing window for analyzing the audio signal at regular intervals, and extracting the processing windows indicating a part having strong-beat power feature as beating window candidates; determining beating windows corresponding to the points where beating should be conducted according to predetermined dance pattern creating option, out of the beating window candidates; and assigning predetermined unique beating codes to the determined beating windows in order of dance patterns based on the dance pattern creating option, and creating beating data of the dance patterns using the beating codes and time information indicating a time interval between beating windows.

An apparatus and method for determining the tempo and locating the downbeats of music encoded by an audio track performs a cross-correlation between a click track and a pulse track to indicate tempo candidates and between the click track and a series of pulses to determine downbeat candidates. The rhythm of the track is modified by altering segments located between the beats before playback. Swing is added by lengthening and shortening certain segments and the time-signature is modified by deleting certain segments.

A method and apparatus that allows a musician or disk-jockey to jump to selected beats while playing a digital music file. Numeric pads on a user interface access beat pointers which point to the location of a selected jump beat in the file. The jump beat then replaces or overlays the beat currently being played. Alternatively, a pattern of beats can be selected to overlay the song as it is played.

An initial note series is collected from a real-time source of musical input material such as a keyboard or a sequencer playing back musical data, or extracted from musical data stored in memory. The initial note series may be altered to create variations of the initial note series using various mathematical operations. The resulting altered note series, or other data stored in memory is read out according to one or more patterns. The patterns may have steps containing pools of independently selectable items from which random selections are made. A pseudo-random number generator is employed to perform the random selections during processing, where the random sequences thereby generated have the ability to be repeated at specific musical intervals. The resulting musical effect may additionally incorporate a repeated effect, or a repeated effect can be independently performed from input notes in the musical input material. The repeated notes are generated according to one or more patterns, which may also have steps containing pools of random selections. A duration control means is used to avoid polyphony problems and provide novel effects. Pitch-bending effects may be additionally generated as part of the musical effect, or can be independently performed. A sliding control window may be utilized to achieve accurate and realistic pitch-bending effects. This method and the apparatus that can perform such a method have application to music and other data in general as well.

A method practiced in connection with a computer game, video game or the like constantly evolves the game's music by permutting several basic themes and rhythms used. A harmonic pointer and rhythm pointer start the music so as to conform to a musical style desired in connection with a displayed scene or other event. Once the pointers have been set to a current musical style, the permutation process evolves the basic themes and rhythms and regenerates new music whose form is a stream of variations of the original themes thoughout the history of an individual game play experience, thus providing a large amount of musical content without having to store a large, complex, prerecorded musical score defined for each scene of the game. The amount of memory needed for musical passages is limited because a complex musical output is created from only a limited set of basic themes and rhythms. Initial musical themes are set during the game installation and musical themes evolve during the game. Playing the exact same sequence of musical notes is avoided, but the basic musical style is maintained, from one game play experience to another or even from product to another.

Separately from an accompaniment style data memory having stored therein one or more accompaniment style data each including performance data for an automatic accompaniment, a modifying data memory is provided which has stored therein one or more modifying data sets each including style designating data for designating any of the accompaniment style data stored in said accompaniment style data memory and modification instructing data for modifying contents of the accompaniment style data designated by the style designating data. Desired one of the modifying data sets is selected and read out from the modifying data memory. One of the accompaniment style data is read out from the accompaniment style data memory in response to the style designating data of the read-out modifying data set read out by said readout section and its contents are modified in accordance with the modification instructing data of the read-out modifying data set, so as to generate modified accompaniment style data. When the modification instructing data indicates a modification for a performance time longer than one pattern cycle of the designated accompaniment style data, the designated accompaniment style data is repetitively reproduced to provide time-length-expanded accompaniment style data, and the time-length-expanded accompaniment style data is then subjected to modification in accordance with the modification instructing data.

The controller scans a plurality of chord switches which select a particular type of chord. If a previously operated selection switch is still closed, the previously generated MIDI chord message continues. If a selection switch is newly operated, then the MIDI signals from an associated musical instrument on a selected channel are scanned to determine the presence of a particular note meeting pre-selected criteria. When such a note is recognized, a three-note MIDI chord message using the particular note as the root note in the chord is produced and transmitted to the music sequencer, which produces a musical pattern in the particular chord as an accompaniment to the musical instrument.
