Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method for the detection and determination of the height of objects by means of an environment detection system, including a first environment detection sensor and a second environment detection sensor of a vehicle, wherein at least one of the environment detection sensors is a mono camera. The method includes the following steps: capturing a mono image using the camera; capturing an environment representation using the second environment detection sensor; carrying out object detection in the mono image; carrying out object detection in the environment representation of the second environment detection sensor; measuring the distance from the object in the environment representation of the second environment detection sensor; and carrying out height determination of the detected object.

Abstract: One variation of a method includes, at a sensor block: detecting a set of objects within a region-of-interest in a frame; detecting an object type of each object; detecting a location of each object within the region-of-interest; and storing object types and object locations of the set of objects in a set of containers. The method further includes, at the computer system: accessing a database of commissioning images; extracting a commissioning image annotated with boundaries from the database; initializing a visualization layer of a set of pixels representing the region-of-interest; and calculating a frequency of presence of the object type intersecting each pixel based on the set of containers; calculating a color value for each pixel based on the frequency of presence; and assigning the color value to each pixel in the visualization layer; and generating a heatmap of the region-of-interest based on the visualization layer and the commissioning image.

Abstract: An object detection system may be configured for an embedded device, such as a microcontroller. The object detection system may be configured to divide an image into multiple cells arranged in a grid. A cell of the multiple cells may map to a region of one or more pixels in the image. The object detection system may detect in each cell either a background or one of multiple objects that are detectable classes distinct from one another. The background may be detected when none of the multiple objects are detected. The one of the multiple objects may be detected when a centroid of the one of the multiple objects is detected. In some implementations, expected data may be detected in a cell when detecting the data within a range, and anomalous data may be detected in a cell when detecting the data outside of the range.
