摘要： A screw extruder having a barrel with a longitudinal bore for receiving a rotatable screw, a transverse bore disposed in the barrel tangential to the longitudinal bore for receiving and supporting a pin wherein the pin extends partially into the longitudinal bore. The tangential arrangement of the pin substantially decreases the susceptability of the pin to bending or breaking. The pin may also be adjustably positioned in the transverse bore and further may be subject to thermal heating and cooling.

摘要： An extruder screw and a method for extrusion to achieve high output rates with thermally sensitive plastic materials and without thermal degradation problems involving the use of a single flight metering type extruder screw having an initial feed zone, distal metering zone, and a transition zone interconnecting the feed and metering zones. In particular, improvements in the extrusion of thermally sensitive plastics such as PVC are achieved through use of a compression ratio of approximately 2:1, a constant lead and pitch, and a proportioning of the length of the feed zone, transition zone, and metering zone relative to the total length of the zones of 27-33%, 23-25%, and 45-48%, respectively. To achieve cooler and more uniform mixing with rigid PVC, polyethylene and like materials, an improved arrangement for using rings of mixing pins is provided.

The degassing pins have passages or channels through which gases and vapors are withdrawn. The retaining or damming structure at the entrance to the degassing zone can also be formed of pins associated with the housing. The conveyed material is mechanically and thermally satisfactorily made uniform by the inventive pin arrangement without material shearing forces, and can also be effectively and favorably degassed. High flow-through rates of the material can be achieved with high product quality.

摘要： A single-screw extruder and process for mixing viscous materials, for example, rubber mixtures and thermoplastic materials. The process and apparatus includes inserting a plurality of obstacles in the flow path of the material stream in the interior of the extruder cylinder. The obstacles are in the form of a number of series of studs protruding into the cylinder and accommodated by respective gaps or openings in the threads of the screw. The depth of penetration as well as the number of studs can be varied and adjusted by automatic means. The penetrating portion of the studs can be of different shapes according to the requirements for a thorough and turbulent deflection and mixing of the material stream.

Liquid is supplied near the center of the chamber through injector bars, and is mixed into the material as it proceeds out of the chamber toward the press exit. If the elastomeric material contains water, it is first processed in the press to remove included moisture to a point where oil is compatible with rubber mixture; if the material contains volatile solvents, heated oil is mixed into the material and also used as an agent to promote release of the solvent.
