Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for allowing multiple P-RNTIs to be supported using communications systems operating according to new radio (NR) technologies. For example, a method for wireless communication by a base station (BS) generally includes receiving, from a core network, a paging message for a user equipment (UE) comprising a paging identifier and a paging offset; determining a plurality of available paging identifiers for the UE associated with the paging offset; selecting, from the plurality of available paging identifiers, at least a first paging identifier to associate with a first UE based on the paging identifier; and paging the first UE using the first paging identifier.

Abstract: Capability exchange enhancements include filtering and/or indexing. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) determines UE capabilities to be reported to a network based on one or more of: one or more enquiries from the network, received system information, a home operator policy, configuration associated with public land mobile network (PLMN) information of one or more networks, a user preference, or a service type. In other aspects, a UE may report a subset of UE capabilities for features used for the connection establishment. Following connection establishment, the UE may use an identifier to communicate a more complete set of modes of operation that the UE is currently capable of performing. Base stations of the network may share the reported subset so that the UE may avoid transmitting the subset to a target base station.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication. A user equipment (UE), for example, may determine a content size of an uncompressed buffer and a content size of a compressed buffer. The UE may then generate a buffer status report (BSR) based on the content sizes of the uncompressed buffer and the compressed buffer. Alternatively, a base station may receive a BSR based on a size of an uncompressed buffer of the UE. The base station may then receive a compressed packet from the UE and may determine a compression gain based on a size of the compressed packet and a size of a corresponding uncompressed packet. The base station may then adjust the received BSR based on the compression gain.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication at a UE. In aspects, a receiver may receive a transmission requesting information about support for data compression. The receiver may determine parameters related to the types of supported data compression and communicate the information to the transmitting device. In some cases, the receiver may then receive a message from the transmitting entity that requests establishment of a data compression configuration. The receiver may respond with confirmation or rejection of the proposed compression configuration. If the configuration is confirmed, the transmitter and receiver may exchange compressed data packets according to the configuration. The devices may exchange status and control information related to the compression configuration (e.g., in a compression header of a compressed message or a separate status and/or control information message).

Abstract: A person may utilize multiple connected devices, such as smart watches, user equipments (UEs), smartphones, tablet computers, and/or the like, which may each be assigned unique phone numbers. Operators may assign a common phone number to the multiple connected devices; however, the phone number is not used in the access stratum path of a radio access technology resulting in multiple paging procedures being performed for the multiple connected devices. In implementations, described herein, a first UE, such as a smartphone, may obtain paging information associated with decoding paging messages for a second UE, such as a smart watch. The first UE may use the paging information to decode a paging message of a combined paging cycle established for the first UE and the second UE, thereby obviating a need for multiple paging cycles for the first UE and the second UE.

Abstract: Capacity limited devices may initiate real-time Internet protocol (IP) flows that may include voice data for voice calls. Talk-over patterns may be identified, and an IP flow may be modified based at least in part on the identified talk-over pattern. Such a modification of an IP flow may include, for example, dropping one or more downlink or uplink packets of the IP flow, modifying a semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) grant to suppress one or more uplink transmissions, or modifying a reliability target associated with the IP flow to reduce a number of redundant transmissions or number of retransmissions.

Abstract: In an aspect, while a mobile device is operating in a RRC_Idle State, an RRC_Suspended State, an RLF State and/or an RLF Recovery Procedure State, the mobile device may transmit a connection establishment message to a base station of a plurality of base stations. In an aspect, the connection establishment message includes information that indicates whether the mobile device has information associated with signals transmitted by one or more base stations of the plurality of base stations. The mobile device may initiate transmission of the information associated with the signals to the base station subsequent to establishing a security context for the connection between the mobile device and the base station. In some aspects, the mobile device may scramble the information associated with signals and transmit the information associated with signals to the base station prior to establishing a security context for a connection between the mobile device and the base station.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for transitioning between short DRX and long DRX cycles based on service type to improve performance (e.g., reduce delay) while limiting power consumption. In one example, the UE switches to a long DRX cycle after a DRX Short Cycle Timer, or drxShortCycleTimer, expires. The UE may also switch to a long DRX if the UE receives long DRX MAC control element (CE) from a gNB. In another example, a gNB may configure a radio bearer from a set of radio bearers (data radio bearer (DRB) and/or signal radio bearer (SRB)), denoted by S, to trigger the UE to enter a short DRX cycle.
