Abstract:
Advertising revenue models applied to geolocation virtual tag infrastructures. In various embodiments, a fee-based activation area is established for delivery and display of a virtual tag that includes advertising information from a merchant or service provider located within the activation area. The advertising virtual tag may be displayed automatically when an appropriately configured device enters the activation area. In other embodiments, the advertising virtual tag is delivered by an advertising server to a mobile device for presentation in conjunction with search results corresponding to a search query received from the mobile device. A poster may select various options (with associated fees) for preferential treatment of the advertising virtual tag. Such options can include, for example, prioritized ranking in a listing of search results or virtual tags, expanded activation range(s), extended time duration for activation, etc.
Abstract:
A technique in which autonomous machine-to-machine interactions are identified, setup and maintained between machines by utilizing a registry that may be searched to identify a registered machine. The search may be for a particular target machine or for content. By identifying a target machine, the registry may provide an address to connect two machines for the two machines to interact, such as the download of content stored on one of the machines.
Abstract:
A system and method is provided to distribute preprocessing of client device content. The client device performs preprocessing or alternatively transfers search accessible content to remote systems for preprocessing such as search system infrastructure, set-top boxes, other client devices, etc. Client device content is preprocessed so as to provide, for example, a preview of images available by providing thumbnails of the images, small excerpts of text or a video preview. Offloading of client device content preprocessing duties reduces web server operational requirements and subsequent power needs. Additionally, preprocessing of searchable content can be distributed across multiple content hosts and search infrastructure elements.

A technique in which an outgoing signal is encoded to have multiple signal levels to modulate a light source, in which respective signal levels are indicative of different signal states of more than one bit. The multi-level signal is transmitted on a passive optical network (PON) having passive splitters to split the modulated light to transmit the light having multiple signal levels to a plurality of destinations via the PON.

A system and method for enhanced auto-negotiation for NGBASE-T. Link partners can be configured to exchange advanced NGBASE-T configuration information such as type, profile, capability and mode information of the PHY in one or more next page messages. Determined cabling parameters that are reflective of communication channel characteristics can be used in the auto-negotiation selection of a configuration for NGBASE-T operation.
Abstract:
A broadband gateway, which enables communication with a plurality of devices, may be operable to identify an energy efficient certified device from the plurality of devices. The broadband gateway may handle at least one physical layer connection to at least one corresponding network access service provider. Information related to the identified energy efficient certified device, including usage information of the device, may be communicated to one or more entities. The broadband gateway may acquire the usage information of the energy efficient certified device by monitoring whether the device is operating in an energy efficient mode. The broadband gateway may obtain a credit and/or a reward from the one or more entities based on the usage information of the energy efficient certified device. The broadband gateway may deposit the credit and/or the reward to an account associated with the energy efficient certified device.
Abstract:
Automotive area networks (AAN) have a substantially fixed network topology, meaning that the physical media used for communications between devices included in the AAN is known. For example, the physical connections within an AAN, sometimes provided by wiring harnesses, can include fixed lengths of twisted pairs of wire (“twisted pairs”). Pre-compensation parameters related to characteristics of the twisted pairs can be determined at the factory, and loaded into the memory of devices connected to the AAN. These pre-compensation parameters are used to improve the fast wake up and link acquisition times of connected devices. Various characteristics of the physical communication channel are measured or estimated as a function of mechanical, ingress, climactic, and environmental variations (MICE), and used to update the pre-compensation parameters.

A dynamic readjustment of an energy efficient network control policy parameters in an optical network unit based on a Service Interoperability in Ethernet Passive Optical Network (SIEPON) protocol. The access link between the OLT and ONU has distinct properties that can be used to enhance the energy efficiency control policy on the network facing side of the ONU. In one embodiment, an adjustment mechanism can be based on the receipt, by an optical interface in an ONU, of a control command from an upstream OLT, wherein the control command is configured to provide a limitation on an available time period during which the ONU can communicate with the OLT over an optical fiber cable.
Abstract:
An Ethernet link may comprise silent and active channels and may support energy efficient Ethernet communication. Training parameters from the one or more active channels may be utilized for determining and/or adjusting training parameters for silent channels prior to activation. Training parameters for silent channels may be determined based on copying training parameters from active channels. Determination of training parameters for silent channels may be based on a weighted average of the active channel training parameters. A delta between active channel training parameters from a prior time and subsequent time may be utilized to determine a correction factor for adjusting training parameters for a silent channel from a prior time. Silent channels may be adjusted based on active channel training parameters and then subsequently may be trained. Training parameters may be adjusted for one or more of an echo canceler, a near-end crosstalk canceler and a far-end canceler.

It may be determined via monitoring whether a first link partner and/or a second link partner coupled via an Ethernet link has trained or refreshed circuitry and/or has updated at least one parameter. Based on the determination, a corresponding link partner may be trained, refreshed and/or updated. One or more of an echo canceller, a far-end crosstalk canceller and a near-end crosstalk canceller for one or more channels may be configured based on the training, refreshing and/or updating. One or more channels may be silent and/or one or more may be active. Link partners may communicate via one or more of in-band signaling, out-of-band signaling to determine which link partner may monitor and/or which may control or initiate operation. The controlling link partner may be assigned a master mode of operation. Training, refreshing and/or updating for the monitoring link partner may be based on a timer.
