An image forming apparatus includes an image carrier to carry a toner image and a fixing device to fix the toner image transferred from the image carrier onto a recording medium by applying at least heat to at least one of the toner image and the recording medium. Such a fixing device includes: a magnetic flux generator to generate a magnetic flux; and a heat generating member disposed at least partially in the magnetic flux. The heat generating member includes a heat generating layer to generate heat via eddy currents therein induced by the magnetic flux, magnitudes of the eddy currents varying according to positions thereof in a width direction of the heat generating layer. Included within the heat generating layer is a magnetic layer having a Curie point in a range, e.g., from about 100 degrees centigrade to about 300 degrees centigrade.

An elastic layer is provided on a surface of one of a metal core and a substrate. A fixing member and a pressure member press into each other and collectively create a nip therebetween. A toner image is conveyed and fixed when passing through the nip. A thickness of the elastic layer is different in at least two widthwise regions by the same amount from the other region. A pair of edges of a prescribed size of the transfer sheet pass through these two widthwise regions, respectively.

An image forming device whereby stable fixing performance is obtained and whose fixing properties are excellent and that does not produce curling of the paper after fixing, due to performing control for correcting fixing temperature by environmental sensing not only during standby but also over time. A plurality of temperature detecting units are provided in the fixing device and a plurality of detecting units that detect temperature and humidity are provided within the image forming device. Temperature correction is performed whereby the target control temperature of the fixing device is changed to a prescribed value in accordance with the temperature or humidity detected by the plurality of detecting units.

A method for fabricating an SOI substrate is provided, which has an active substrate formed as a thin film. The method comprises the steps of: using a both-side polishing apparatus to polish both sides of a supporting substrate 1; bonding an active substrate 2 onto the supporting substrate 1. to form a bonded-wafer; removing an unbonded portion formed at the circumference of the bonded-wafer; flat grinding the active substrate 2 to reduce the thickness thereof; etching the active substrate 2 by spin etching; and processing the active substrate to be a thin film by PACE processing.

A silver halide color photographic material light-sensitive having a photographic layer constitution on a support is provided. The photographic layer constitution is comprised of at least one yellow coupler-containing silver halide emulsion layer, at least one magenta coupler-containing silver halide emulsion layer and at least one cyan coupler-containing silver halide emulsion layer formed on the support in this order. The magenta coupler is a 2-equivalent 5-pyrazolone coupler or a 2-equivalent pyrazoloazole coupler. A non-light-sensitive layer is provided between the yellow coupler-containing silver halide emulsion layer and the magenta coupler-containing silver halide emulsion layer and it contains a compound of formula (I) in an amount of from 2.75.times.10.sup.-4 to 1.5.times.10.sup.-3 mol/m.sup.2. The molar ratio of the silver halide in the yellow coupler-containing silver halide emulsion layer to the yellow coupler therein is from 1.5 to 3.5. ##STR1## wherein the variables are as defined in the specification. The material has excellent rapid processability and color reproducibility, and the color image formed has high color-fastness. The material is free from color-mixing.

A portable water-purifying means comprising an oblong pump room containing a hand pump therein and an oblong water-purifying room containing a water-purifying means therein and being equipped on its upper side with a water outlet in a casing equipped with a water inlet. The pump room and the water-purifying room are arranged in parallel to each other with a partition separating the two rooms, and these rooms communicate with each other through a passage arranged on their bottom sides. The water inlet and the passage are provided respectively with check valves which operates to limit flow of water to the direction from the inlet to the water-purifying room.

A method for forming color images and silver halide color photographic material for use therewith are provided by the present invention. The method comprises imagewise exposing a silver halide color photographic material processing with a color developer and then successively processing with a solution having a bleaching ability and having a pH of about 6.5 or less for a period of time of about 75 seconds or less, wherein the silver halide color photographic material contains at least one light-sensitive layer on a support, the light-sensitive layer containing at least one coupler capable of forming a dye by the coupling reaction with the oxidation product of an aromatic primary amine color developing agent and a silver halide emulsion which substantially excludes silver iodide but contains silver chloride in an amount of about 80 mol % or more and which has been spectrally-sensitized with a dye as represented by general formula (I), (II) or (III) described herein. The characteristic aspect of the present invention includes the high spectral sensitivity, the sufficient color forming property and desilvering property almost without the generation of fog, and the possibility of the rapid processing with a color developer which does not substantially contain benzyl alcohol.

The present invention provides a novel silver chlorobromide emulsion which is substantially free from silver iodide and which contains silver halide crystal particles comprising cubic, rectangular parallelepiped or tetradecanedral first silver halide crystals having six (100) surfaces which may further comprise additional (110) surfaces, at least one of the six (100) surfaces being conjugated with second silver halide crystals having a halogen composition different from that of the (100) surfaces of the first silver halide crystals and mainly comprising (110) surfaces, the second silver halide crystals being conjugated over the one or more surfaces of the first silver halide crystals in the form of one or more projections.The present invention further provides a method for the preparation of this conjugated silver chlorobromide particle-containing emulsion which is substantially free from silver iodide which comprises forming cubic, rectangular parallelepiped or tetradecahedral first silver halide crystals having six (100) surfaces which may further comprise additional (110) surfaces and then adding thereto an aqueous halide solution and an aqueous silver salt solution in the presence of a crystal habit regulator wherein at least one of the six (100) surfaces of the first silver halide crystals is conjugated with second silver halide crystals mainly comprising (110) crystal surfaces and having a halogen composition different from that of the (100) surfaces of the first silver halide crystals, the second silver halide crystals being conjugated over one or more surfaces of the first silver halide crystals in the form of one or more projections.
